Howdy all,

After recently dusting off my BG2 cd i have decided to play as a Sorceror. the plan is to go all the way through with a sorceror and a thief (maybe F/T dual).

while i have played many theives over the years, i have never ever played a sorceror. I know they can be nasty powerful, but you need to choose the right spells. I suck at choosing spells. So, what are some 'must have' spells?

Note: i am the cheese master, so things like cloudkill from off screen are my bread and butter, although i am planning to minimise that a bit this time.

anyway, any help is appreciated!

You can find a good list of spells to use with either a solo or party sorceror by Dundee Slaytern. Just click on the picture in his signature (see the sticky posts to find posts by Dundee.

If you're going to play with a party of only two, you may want to read both spell lists and take some suggestions from both.

Hmmm for a dynamic duo I might be tempted to make the sorcerers sidekick a cleric/thief either MC (gnome or Halforc) or possibly a dual class thief->cleric or thief kit->cleric if the main purpose for the thief is just locks and disabling traps. If you want ALL the thief stuff then the MC would be the way to go I think.

THanks people! i will check out that list, and the thief kit > cleric sounds interesting.

Thanks again!

I am also not opposed to some cheese in my life.

That said I would recommend that your sorcerer not take cloudkill or fireball for that matter.

Sorcerers have only a limited supply of spells they can have so it seems wasteful to fill them up with spells when wands and potions happily duplicate.

My formula for picking sorceerer’s spells involves making a list of all possible spells in each level and then crossing off the ones I don’t need, want’ or ever use, including spells that have objects that duplicate their effects. Then going ad picking the “must haves” (Magic missile, project image, death spell, stoneskin) the remaining spell slots can be filled with the leftovers, sometimes the choices are very limited and sometimes there arnt’ enough spell slots to go round.

Fireball is a useful spell no matter how you wrap it... even if a Wand can cast it.... can a Wand put it in a sequencer or spell trigger? I think not.
