Just went to the barbershop for some maintenance on my haircut (I'm currently trying to grow it somewhat longer), and I left the place in a state of complete shock.
I'm probably not the only man around here who tried to grow sideburns, and others will probably agree with me that it's a process that takes a lot of patience (and some initial ridicule when it's not quite "there" yet ); especially if you've got a very light hair colour like I do, it takes quite a lot of time before you'll see the results. And after months of waiting, my efforts were finally starting to show some results.

For that reason, I specifically asked the hairdresser not to make the side-burns any shorter - and what happened next is easy to guess. I wasn't paying attention for a few seconds, and with two swipes of her electric razor, she cuts out a major part next to the ears - effectively destroying the connection between the facial and the head part of my hair that had taken me months to grow, causing a gap of more than a centimeter between the two "bulwarks". I managed to keep her from cutting the rest off as well, but that's about the only thing I was able to utter in protest - I've been pretty much catatonic ever since. No sadness, anger or violent tendencies whatsoever, just disbelief, shock - I have the feeling that it's going to take days before my eyes will lose their current saucer-like wideness.

So... Anyone else got any hairdresser horror anecdotes to share?

ROTFL. I noticed some fluff on your face Sunday, yeah. Was that supposed to be sideburns and a goatee of some kind? Couldn't you be just a bit more unpredictable in your puberty? You've had plenty of years to think about it after all.

OK I'm gonna stop teasing now. Just put that axe down, please. No really, I was only joking...

Seriously though - if a hairdresser goes against your wishes (that you made explicit) you are usually entitled to a redo (not really useful in your case) or partial refund (f---ing nitpicking teachers ).
Oh and as for personal horror stories - I've been okay the last couple of years but as a child hair horror stories were my specialty. My mother was really cool and let me decide for myself what to wear and let me do my own hair. Sometimes she regretted it sorely though - I've had gum stuck in my bangs several times and the worst time must have been when I decided to make a fancy hairdo with scotch tape. Oh and once I cut off one of my two pigtails so the other one had to be cut off as well. I guess the hairdresser dreaded me rather than the other way around.

LOL, that's an awesome story. Do you want an Arledrian hair-transplant, Groj? You'll grow sideburns in about three days. Or maybe you could just take those testosterone pills, or, or...

The only time I've had a really messed up haircut is when I was kind of daydreaming out of the window and the barber gave me really short hair with a sort of Hitler-parting on one side. I was horrified.

No horror stories here, though I do remember some enlightening discussions/monologues on how the hairdresser's son, that were about my age, wanted his hair, the weather and some slightly duller stuff. Haven't cut my hair for 3 years, and not seen any hairdressers for even longer... they'd probably just cut my head right off if I showed up there now :/

That's too bad...

I was going for a barber's cut, and he shaved the part of my head like there was no tomorrow!!! I quickly reminded him that I was having a barber's cut and not a skinhead... LOL Good thing he was using the 3 or 2 cm thing that you connect to the electronic razor... what do you call that???

Oh man last time a barber messed up cutting my hair I didn't pay for it, and thats not because they said I didn't have to pay for it.

Ouch. That's not teasing, that's running me down with a lawn mower and then picking my eyes out with a rake.
Seriously though... Fluffy or not, it has got to start somewhere, no? As long as one part grows faster than the other, it's bound to look somewhat messy - but I was finally starting to make some progress in that department; you should have seen it about a month ago.
