It draws a little more power than the stock heatsink/fan though!

Am I the only one here who thinks that would be not only incredibly noisy, but also impractical and ineffective? Water cooling systems trump that Big Bad Turbine Mother F***er in every way.

Agreed, and the thing would cost more than the rest of the beastly PC its in anyways.

Not to mention the cost of the case it needs....

Exactly. I've tried just about every stress test I could up to now and the hottest I can get mine is around 30c. If you want to run cool without the risk of ripping the whole retention bracket completely off the mobo, run even a cheap water cooler. Just don't go too cheap...heh

So a styrofoam cooler and a bag of ice would be a bad way to go?

Styrofoam is a thermo-isolator. Not a good way to go.
A silver tub on the other hand...

Ice would melt in short order - a high end CPU us putting out a couple of hundred watts of heat.

Also youd get condensation on the outside of the tub. This is A Bad Thing, cos its going to drip onto the motherboard.

The shops around here claim water cooling is bad and "to get an extra fan, it does a better job". They don't stock any water cooling systems and are resistant to the idea of selling you one. You'd have to get in a fight with them to make them sell you one.
