Do you know if any announcement was made as to the reason these Brits were in NYC and Washington...business people visiting the WTC, visiting military personel, tourists? It is of course sad in all cases, but it does seem like such a large number

The final death toll is going to be so high...I can't dwell on it. The WTC was a complex of international as well as American commerce. It wouldnt suprise me if few countries on our plantet didn't lose citizens. Worldwide, we mourn today and for some time to come.

I'm from the Netherlands and even a few dozen dutch people died in there. I'm sure almost every country's lost some of their people

Several British companies had offices in the WTC. The information has come from Scotland Yard and is based on the number of enquiries about people who worked in the WTC and who have not been traced so far.

Moridin, please don't take this the wrong way but the term 'Brits' is quite offensive. It is used as an insult by the IRA amongst others. Normally I'm not that sensitive or concerned and the term is used quite freely on this board. It's just that at this time sensibilities are running a bit high.

May I ask what you prefer, then? I am guilty of using that term, too, but I've got friends from Britain who say that all the time. Also, my Director is from Scotland and someone called him "English" and he emphatically stated that "I'm NOT English, I'm British". Anyone referring to his nationality since has said Scot or "the now-dreaded 'B' word". So what DO you want us to use?

I thank Great Britain and all other members of NATO for the support they have offered. It is good that we have such friends as all NATO nations, especially at a time like this.

Personally, I don't mind what you call me. It was just in the context of those who died that I felt it looked out of place. Of course I was a bit 'tired and emotional' which is a euphemism used by the press for 'drunk' at the time. After I posted I was watching the BBC and one of our politicians used it so I guess I'm of a different generation. I was obviously talking out of my arse!

But definitely don't call a Welshman or a Scotsman, English. They will not be at all amused.

General Woundwort's body was never found. It could be that he still lives his fierce life somewhere else. But from that day forward, mothers would tell their kittens that if they were not good, the General would get them. Such was Woundwort's monument, and perhaps it would not have displeased him.
