Anarrima 67/67

She looked down to the floor, overcome for a moment with the grief presented at the loss of a friend.

A moment later, she looked up again with wet eyes and declared, "Then let us find out what is keeping our human friend down that hallway. Then let us get out of this place. We may not be strong enough in numbers to handle the malice encountered in these cursed hallways."

Anarrima was not kidding. With her clerical skill she could tell that this was indeed a vile and cursed place. It was full of unsleeping death.

Just then, there was a flash of light down the hallway, precicely where the party would expect Marcos to be.

=================================================

For Marcos:

When the lady elf's scream rang out, the other two, the rude elf and the half-elf had bolted to her aid, thinking the young cleric incapable of caring for herself. Even as Marcos was taking a more patient and careful approach to this event, surveying the damage they'd all done to the metallic entities now laying in heaps upon the ground as rubble, there were suddenly two men standing in the room. One muttered a single syllable, and the other reached out and grabbed Marcos by the arm. The word uttered was not understandable by any means, nor was the second word uttered by the one that had just grabbed him.

A flash of ultra-bright light was the next thing Marcos knew.

When the light dissapated and returned the room to its dark and dreary state, not one of the three humans were to be found.

More for Marcos

His eyes were open, but all he could immediately see was a brightly glowing boulder of an item in front of him about 25 paces away, hovering of its own free accord over a design on the floor, which was under about 3 inches of murkey water. The design was also aglow, but the symbols were unreadable under their watery submersion. The glow lit up a vast room, which in all appearances seemed to be still within the very Castle Lesismoore that he should still be in. Behind the glowing emerald, about fifty paces away from it, which made 75 paces between it and where Marcos sat, there were two stone columns that had strange writing upon them, also aglow with the eery green radiance. Between the two columns was an oval-shaped purple cloud, lightning coursing its way through the murk within. Marcos recognized this as a magical portal to some unknown destination...or from one.

Other observations was that he actually sat in the king's throne, upright, but bound by green-glowing whisps of smoke upon his wrists that he could see, as well as felt a similar hold upon his ankles and even his throat. Othewise, he was comfortable for the time being.

There was no sign of the two that had abducted him.

Yevaud 42/45

Yevaud nodded numbly, he knew that had his spells worked he could have saved Silt from the creature, perhaps even protected him from the human's incompetence, wishful thinking, but it was all he had. He made a mental note to reserve a certain spell for the rip to the surface, he had no doubt that giant land leeches would be no matter for his Art. He would have just as soon left the arrogant knight to his fate but for the protestation of Anarrima, he would march into the gates of hell and post an eviction notice on Asmodius's door if she asked it of him.

Anrarrima 67/67

The three of them had clearly seen the flash of light. Anarrima was the first to react, running down the hallway, knowing the other two were behind her. What was Marcos doing down there? Had he engaged in combat, or activated a trap?

When she got to the end of the hallway, she looked about, but saw nothing, and more importantly nobody. Turning to the two males that were behind her, she said

"So...where is he?"

Slowly she quietens, and looks around her through eyes dimmed with the fog of pain and anger... One by one her wolves come up to her and gently nudge her with a cold wet nose then step back, waiting...

One mighty oak, the largest in the grove, reaches down one massive branch. The beautiful leaves now turned red in the fall, gently brush her hair away from her face. One small leaf lingers near her forehead, and softly touches the new rune on her face.

She reaches up one hand, almost without knowing, and places her fingertips upon the new rune in wonder that she didn't notice it before, and wonders why she doesn't feel any emotion of the significance of this rune. Her eyes slowly turn to silver, but still carry a smoky dark remnant of the shadow.

She looks up at the oak as it removes its branch, and lazily stretches towards the darkening sky then resumes its guardian position in the grove and all is silent....

Looking around her, she nods to her wolves, and silently stands, retrieving her possessions, and walks over to the standing stone placing her ungloved hands upon it once more, then turns.

A gentle sigh of sadness is heard within the grove as she and her wolves move through the trees, heading towards the only destination she can think of to go to...

The nearest ley line.......

Fun with a guy named Marcos

How much time had passed while he sat there and stared at that glowing green rock? How long had he pondered over the use of that portal?

Time was undetectable, except for the aching muscles that screamed out for movement that could not be given.

And then there was a man in a robe of dirty green in front of him, smirking.

"Well, hello there stranger. I am glad to see you have finally awoke."

The man looks back to the emerald for a moment, and then back to Marcos.

"She's beautiful, isn't she? When we learned of her hiding place, we came running. But gaining possession of her was not the hardest part. For more time than I would like to admit, we have been trying to learn how to make her work. We're definately close, I assure you, but in order to preserve the work we've done...her needs must be met. Yes. Her...needs."

The man smiles, the look seemingly very skeletal and not the warm embrace that a normal person's smile held. He stepped aside and muttered a few strange syllables. In rythmn with his voice, the emerald pulsated, growing even brighter than it had been previously with each new pulse. Then the strange man was gone, but Marcos would not have seen this. Instead, his total attention was now upon the emerald, eyes affixed to it as though he were under a hypnosis. A beam of green light shot out from the emerald and invaded the eyes of the bound man.

OOC>>>Okay, so I admit that the idea comes from the Dark Crystal...but if you start calling for your animal friends to bust out of their cages, you'll be dead before you know it!

Yevaud

Seeing that Marcos had vanished Yevaud was about to announce that it was too late and they should obviously depart before they too joined him in whatever fate had befallen him and Silt. "Spirit," the elf called out, he didn't trust the ghost, nor did he expect it to appear, but it was perhaps the only way to quickly locate Marcos if he was still alive. "Ghost, appear and lead us to Marcos." his voice laced with venom for both the loathsome undead and the human.

Sir Manessah xx/xx / Anarrima 67/67

The spirit of the traitor appeared and smiled bitterly at the elf.

"I thought maybe you had forgotten all about me."

He looks at Anarrima.

"Another cleric. I have had my fill of clerics!"

Anarrima was not in the least bit comfortable with this situation. It was totally against her faith to even allow this foul spectre to exist, but apparently, it knew how to find the missing human if Yevaud knew anything about it. She decided that for the better good, she would have to just stay quiet at the moment, but it pained her.

The pain was not wasted upon the ghost.

"Well then, if the pretty one has nothing to say, then we had better go get Sir Marcos Snowdale before I get doubly cursed for being involved in the death of more of the Snowdale clan."

The ghost led the party of three through the hallway and down the staircase that led to the second room. The ghost flew through the door ahead of the rest and came back through hurriedly.

"There are dark creatures on the other side of that door, elf. Be prepared for a fight. The clerics have not wasted their talents on making skimpy guardians. Call me when you are done."

The ghost vanished.

Anarrima began praying, mentally selecting which powers she might need for a confrontation. Whatever was on the other side of that door would get a taste of her power before it had the chance to harm Yevaud or Vincent.

OOC>>>Yevaud or Vincent may open the door whenever you're ready.

Inquisitor Marcos of Snowdale - 98/98

The world turned a bright green nothingness, a stark white outline of a gem superimposed over the monochrome view. The pull of the artifact was practically irresistable, yet even so the paladin's trained mind fought against the all-consuming beacon in front of him. His tutors had schooled him in shattering illusions of dark magic and ill wards of control, and even as the emerald grid grew to fill his view entirely, he found momentary respite in some remote part of his self, far with drawn and yet helplessly adrift in the emerald seas.

It seemed their timing in coming to this place had been a most unfortunate one. Though his regular purgings of dark magic nests were better organized and more informed than this forray had been, he knew that little information on this subject could have been found elsewhere.
The mysterious vanishing of Silverfall and the Duchess, the uncovering of this hidden complex, the involvement of Snowdale blood, all this told him he was destined to be here, now, watching as the gemstone no doubt began to feed on him.

Once more, he was being tested. With no control over his body, it would come down to an unseen but equally real battle of wills. It was a pity then, that he was so ill informed about his opponent.

Yevaud

The loathsome spirit was gone, Yevaud was glad for it was an irritant to bear it's presence, it had revealed little about it's goals or the dangers inside the chamber, but that there were more guardians beyond. Looking at Silt and Anarrima he tried to be the war-leader he was trained to be. "Vincent, you go left, I'll take the right Anarrima stay in the middle, if there are unresting dead inside we'll need your connection to the goddess, otherwise whatever effect has been tampering with magic in the area may wreak more havok with your spells and mine. Stay close together, work together and we may get through. We're not trying to destroy whatever is in there if we can get past it, speed is our goal, we can worry about the leftovers when the fool human has rejoined us." Waiting for confirmation that they understood, Yevaud threw the doors open taking the right flank, sword ready moving defensively with a deceptively lazy motion. The fatigue was pushed back by the adrenaline rush of anticipated battle, to fail to strike was to die, to be struck likely also meant death, it was truly going to be a great adventure.
