Race
Dark-Elf For race I'll have to go with the Dark-Elf or commonly known as the Drow. Not only do they look nifty but they also have various masterly traits. While the level adjustment may be a throw off, I can't resist the line-up of extra abilities, spell resistance and many other enhancements. Human After the drow is the human with the advantageous bonus feat and extra skill points. The obvious, common choice for most characters in my party. Class Cleric A fine mix of melee and magery is the Cleric. You can't go wrong with the many defensive and healing spells they possess while also being able to hang with the tanks up front slashing their enchanted weapons eagerly. So they aren't as tough as the fighter in combat, but after the amount of 'buffing' spells cast upon themself, they become one reckless warrior not to play with. Rogue Many dispute the Rogue's abilities in terms of usefulness throughout Icewind Dale II but I can't play without one. Although I'll probably multiclass into a Fighter or Wizard, the Rogues keen abilities to open locks, disable devices, hide, sneak, talk and of course pickpocket can be a fine asset to any party. Monk I see the Monk as a very exotic character to play. No armour and no weaponry would seem mad when facing off against the monstrous creatures that roam Icewind Dale. (Or any of Faerun for that matter). However, because of their incredible versatility in combat they are fine characters to play and make brilliant scouts.

Whoa, what's with the drow love-fest?
Give me a dwarf. A fighter multiclassed with something, maybe barbarian, cleric or paladin. A short, tough, bearded bloke who prefers to go through his enemies axe-first. None of that messing around with finesse or sorcery.

Why the drow rock: Stats: perfect for many multiclassing options. The CON loss is bearable, and they are suited for all forms of magic or combat. Favored Class: Cleric or Mage makes them able to be very versatile with multiclassing. Also, the stats encourage adding thief to the mix. Magic resistance: Need I say more? A drow monk can be your permanent fireball targeting reticule. Simply rush him in, enjoy a few moments of watching pitiful enemies try to hit him, then drop as many fireballs, horrid wiltings, meteor swarms, fire storms, flame strikes, etc. as you want. Honestly, the only thing that a drow can't do is be a barbarian. So, how are your dwarves doing, Aerich? |

I'll side with Kakero here -
Aasimar Paladin with the Holy Avenger. Cool quest with a great background. I also had a thief deep gnome that was awesome. The Huge level adjustment wasn't really a factor for me, and he never really got hit through the whole game. |

race - dwarves and humans
class - enchanter I've always had an enchanter as my mage. Give him greater spell focus enchantment to start, then necromancy and transmutation. Charm enemy casters, stack Chaos + Slow + Horror on packs, Haste the fighters. Thats pretty much all he casts the entire game. |

In terms of of coolest classes to play, I love monks and sorcerors. Monks because they are cool in the RP category as well as being extremely useful characters in their own right, and sorcerors because they are the epitome of magical force, and in game terms, have the great ability to pick their spells on the fly instead of memorizing.
