But the berserkers from the Horn of Valhalla are not normal summons, and you get no experience from them. Which is why summoning by spell is preferred

The Illusionist's shadow spells sometimes gives one good summon: The Troll

The Troll will just "play dead" whilst the other monsters beat on his unconscious body -- to no avail. In the mean time, you get to pelt the bad guys senseless with spells and ranged weapons. Nice!

When I was soloing my bard, whenever a Barbarian killed a monster, I got experience. Every time; well, almost every time... Can't keep track of everything, now can we?

Ister,

Sorry, but you're wrong.

I'll repeat it again, backed up by testing, there are only two times when you kill a monster and don't get experience:

1. when the monster you *kill* was a summon
2. when the game lists that particular monster ID as being worth no exp (ex. many townsfolk)

Who does the killing has no effect on any of this-the only important fact is *what* was killed. Whether a character, summon, barb, spell, or what have you does the killing, the exp is given and it is the same.

I've received XP for the berserkers' kills also. Perhaps it was a bug that got ironed out in HoW or a patch?

Actually, I receive the message that the party has gained __ XP; I haven't actually checked to see that they do. I will check and return with my results.

Edit: yes, your party does receive XP for kills made by berserkers from the Horn of Valhalla. However, the party member summoning the berserkers does not get credit on the stat sheet for kills made by his summons. In IWD1, this is common to all summoners.

OK, this is very strange.

I have HOW and TOTLM installed, and I get no experience from the berserkers. I tested this pretty extensively, because I was very annoyed by it. What install is everyone else on? Is there another patch that I don't know about?

I have only HoW and ToTL installed (nothing else; no other patches). I'm 90% sure but I think that i got the XP from them. Can't verify though, since don't have game with me at the moment.

@ ister - no, no special patch. I've just got the basics of IWD/HoW/TotL.

Do you have any mods etc that might be causing problems?

No mods. I guess I'll have to double check (well more like quadruple check at this point).
