Many Chileans for example, In Chile There was a military coup with the help of many American officials and American aid, which overthrew a democratically elected government. The U.S's record on this sort of thing is just as bad as any other western nation, France, U.S, Britain, Israel. It's quite deppressing really.
Perhaps I should have said "Our country is not normally one to push others around" KHaN says it was Venezuela and it was related to their president's proposal to regulate oil...blah blah blah, yada, yada, yada...he left on a U.S. military plane with a U.S. escort something or another...I'm sorry he spoke too fast for me to understand and then left the room! I am aware that our governments reputation is not squeaky clean but we are diplomatic and nothing of the proposal that this thread was started over has been publicized in the U.S. as far as we know here and I can't see people stressing over it, fighting over it, or even scrutinizing everyone else's words in order to find an argument with other members here. |

“In 1975, the U.S. Senate report Covert Action in Chile, 1963-1973 revealed extensive U.S. government intervention in Chilean politics for a decade prior to the military coup of September 11, 1973. Among the exposed schemes were CIA attempts to block the results of Chile's 1970 presidential election by hook (bribing representatives to vote against him in the required congressional runoff election) or by crook (fomenting a military coup), courses of action known, respectively, as "Track I" and "Track II." Dramnek_Ulk,
Oh OK...the Venezuela thing happened a couple to three weeks ago he says but according to him "you'll never hear anything about it on the news" Now he has me wondering if it really happened or if this is just another story concocted by the democratic underground to instill fear and paranoia in people who don't put all their faith in the Bush party. He hangs out there far too much. [ 06-08-2002, 06:01 PM: Message edited by: Moni ] |

ROTFLMAO!!!!
Yesterday the offical Beijing (sp?) newspaper published an article on how that Congress was talking about moving the capital from Washington D.C. to a sunnier climate. The problem was the origninal article came from the "Onion", a satirical web site. I'm willing to bet this invasion stuff is the same type of thing. Somebody has been yanking your chains and laughing their butt's off at the collective paranoia running rampant. Why in the world would we (USA) want to invade a customer of ours? After all we are capitalist pigs right? We want money, that is all we care about right? We can't make money off dead customers. ROTFLMAO "Paranoia will destory Ya" "paranoia will destory Ya" (sings to self between bursts of laughter)

I see it as our government trying to be an international police force. It is just another example of U.S. lawmakers sticking there noses in where they dont belong. I am constanly amazed and sickend by the audacity of some of our politicians. It seems like they think the rest of the world should be just like here. Personaly , I think if things keep up like this our government is going to piss off the wrong people and get the nose they keep sticking everywhere broken.

But if the US were to attack the Netherlands, I think all kind of sanctions from European and Nato country's would follow. Though no one would of course start shooting at the U.S |
