Even if you don't like rap, you have to admire the lyrical dexterity of some of the rappers.

See there's an intelligent comment. The young lady is putting supposedly mature and intelligent posters to shame *cough* Attalus *cough*

You gotta be kidding... unless of course you haven't heard much true hip-hop in which case maybe Linkin Park rapping does seem good (with nothing better to compare it to).

I was going to Too Short, Public Enemy, and other such concerts since the time when it was really dangerous to be one of the few skinny white guys in the auditorium. And, from the Sugar Hill Gang up to the latest "In the Club" fad, my favorites are:

Beastie Boys who just have great party music, awesome sounds, and a good vibe when working together. Plus, "Eggman" and "Body Movin'" are just 2 of the coolest songs ever.

and, the best, which is (of course you all knew I'd say this):

Eminem, who has gone from making "fight music for high school kids" to "sing[ing] for these kids who don't have a thing, except for a dream and f[rikkin] rap magazine"

Who has the honesty to admit that what he gets out of writing is the satisfaction of feeling like he's helped that one dude out there:
That's why we seize the moment try to freeze it and own it, squeeze it and
hold it
Cause we consider these minutes golden
And maybe they'll admit it when we're gone
Just let our spirits live on, through our lyrics that you hear in our
songs...

And who is simply honest as hell, even self-contradictory, which is something we all are but so few of us are wise enough to see or admit:
But no one ever puts a grasp on the fact i've sacrificed everything I have
I never dreamt i'd get to the level that i'm at, this is whack
This is more than I ever could of asked
everywhere I go, a hat, a sweater hood, or mask
What about math, how come I wasn't ever good at that
It's like the boy in the bubble, who never could adapt, i'm trapped
If I could go back, I never woulda rapped
I sold my soul to the devil, i'll never get it back

Caveats:
1. Eminem is good, D-12 sucks.
2. Dr. Dre is a wonderful producer, but not a very great rapper. While I rate him as a great rap artist due to his production/mixing capacities, I have to admit his raps often are about "blunts, forties, bitches, and big screen TVs."

But, I think any good rapper has lyrical dexterity. Lack of it has created some pretty poor rappers -- like Biz Markie.
