A year later, Sodamn and Iraq went to war with Iran after the Iranian hostages (USA)were taken. The USA then gave Iraq some military support, because at the time "the emeny of our enemy is our friend". Besides as long as Iranians were shooting Iraqis they weren't shooting us. That may not be a pretty fact of life in the world but it is how things work.
I really hate the policy of "The enemy of our enemy is our friend". It always ends up coming back at us in the worst ways. We've supported some of the worst groups in the past and I hope we stop doing it.
I'd agree with you that it almost always comes back to bite us in the rear end.
But unfortunitly sometimes choices have to be made, and "if you choose not to made a choice you still have made a choice" (NOW look what you did, you made me brust out in song )

You're Welcome Miss Garnet Ma'am,
Is that "enemy of the day" anything like the "soup of the day"

It doesn't mean we always agree.

1. Your signature is FAR too big; read the Rules and Regulations- click the button on the top of your screen that looks like:

2. There are 12 year olds and younger browsing these boards; for that reason the mods look down very sternly at swearing. I would strongly recomend you edit your post if you want it to survive much longer.

Probably just US incompetence then I mean in that old Gulf War we got attacked more times by American Military than by Iraqis. When we supported Oman's Sultan against rebels Americans supplied those rebels with arms & vehicles to battle us with, etc. etc.

Lek, shrink that sig will you? There are rules on sig size here, as lennon pointed out. ALso we do have a few kids here, and some of the adults dont like them seeing language like that. I myself dont care one way or the other, the mods will sort it out if neccesary.

Sorry - I haven't posted here in many months so I don't know about these newfangled rules you kids play with these days.

As to the Gulf War, join the crowd! Friendly fire killed more of our own guys than the Iraqis did. Trying to co-ordinate huge armies, of different nationalities, moving quickly across a bland landscape like the desert, while chasing a retreating/surrendering army (that wasn't expected to retreat or surrender), and employing massive conventional weaponry can only lead to the inevitable consequences of war. Our guys, your guys, all the coalition guys, and the Iraqi guys suffer those consequences.

I'm not familiar with the Oman situation you refer to(I don't doubt you at all, but would like some info - maybe a link), but I'm sure both the US and Britain have backed operations the other didn't care for MANY times in the past century and several of those had to be conflicting interest.

As I said, being allies doesn't mean we unconditionally support every single action the other takes. If we did that, Britain wouldn't send spies to the US, and the US wouldn't send spies to Britain.
