I'm running through HOTU again, and just picked up Aribeth. I haven't used her before in this game, so I'm not sure if this is standard - first time I talked to her after she joined my party, she went on about me awakening a great evil in her, and that I may regret not binding her to my service. Is it possible to have her join your party and not be restored to Paladin status? I'd prefer not to have her tagging along as a Blackguard only to betray me later.

That's odd. When I took Aribeth, had no problems restoring her to Paladin status. Of course, all my characters are good-aligned. If your guy is evil, that probably makes a big difference. However, I don't think you need to worry about betrayal until the very end, and even there you have true name to keep her on your side.

No - I'm a Paladin / COT. I can't remember what I said to her to convince her to join me, but I wonder if there are two seperate dialogue branches that determine her alignment as a henchman. Of course, this could be standard banter from her until she comes around later. I'll just have to watch her...

I believe there are two separate paths that she can go. Although, I won't swear that she can't turn one way or the other, depending on what's going on with the party.
