I got it into my head that Sirius would be the perfect addition to my car (deck is even Sirius ready), so I shelled out $320 of my own money and went and bought the components (reciever and anntenna) from Circuit City, plus the warranties to go with the 2 components, and installation, which will be occuring tomorrow afternoon.

Would just like to know if anyone has satellite radio or has a friend they drive with occasionally who has Sirius (or XM) and what you think of it.

Well, the component that hooks up to the deck that the antenne hooks into ect is 150$ (looked at others and theyre all pretty much the same), the antenne was $50, so there's $200, the warranty on the component is $50, on the antenne its like $10 or something, so theres $260, then I have to pay for them to install it, so the grand total is like 310$ something, since you need to add the 7% Cali tax to all that...

Would have been much cheaper without the warranties, but I know how valuable those are. I got an amp/sub installed last november for xmas and since my dad was paying he didn't want to pay extra for the warranty...well my amp broke (of course). So instead of having Circuit City just replace it I had to send it to the company that made the amp and get it fixed...that took a week...so, warranties are your friend

A friend of mine just installed an XM radio (not sure what brand) on his motorcycle. He spent last weekend riding the mountains of western NC and LOVED it -- first time he could cruise that area without having a radio fade in/out (mostly out).

I agree that the price is a bit much, but it is nice to be able to hear music in areas you normally can't

I've had a fair number of rental cars with satellite radio, and I have to say that you still get fade-out. Only instead of being a weaker signal, it's a missing signal while it tries to find the satellite again. And you don't have to be in the boonies, either; I watched the signal disappear in Boston and San Francisco.

Now, the fact that I can pick stations that I enjoy, and that avoids commercials... that is worth something

I just got it installed about 4 hours ago, subscribed for a year, so its only $10.36 a month because of some special deal Sirius is having. That was nice, and once it was activated I went and messed around with it on my deck and I must say it is definately worth the money. Sound quality is crystal clear it has all my favorite stuff on seperate channels (an entire section devoted to Rave, woot!)

The only catch is the radio cuts out if you park under an obstruction...or drive under a bridge or through a tunnel, which is sucky, but since the only time I'm ever going under something is a split second on the freeway or when I'm parked at home, it's no biggie
