Does any one use them and if so with what NPC.
I can't find any reason for using them at all. Double handed swords are much more varied, more poerful and more available. Spears like impaler make them look naff. Speed of attack is crap and no NPC begins with them in proficency slots. Whats the point ?

Actually, in the near future I shall begin a new game with a fighter, perhaps a kensai, who specializes in halberds; I plan on giving this character specialization in halberd and ** in 2-handed weapon style, to take advantage of the lowered attack speed and increased critical hit chance. There are plenty of high-powered halberds, they have good reach, and will be quite deadly. Wave, Dragon's Breath, Blackmist, etc.

As you can see, it's a fearsome weapon. There are some nice ones in SoA: Harmonium Halberd (+1 STR - good for half orcs), Dragons Bane (Lilacour equivalent - can be obtained early in SoA), the Wave (what Efreeti?) Speed attack is faster than 2-handed sword. (Base 9) |

I like halberds as well!
More than spears.I also think that are more powerfull than 2handed swords in general-Crasomyr aside the oly real good swords are the vorpal and Soulreaver.Just my opinion.

Dragon's Breath is one of my favorite weapons. It does 1-10+4, +5 elemental damage, 1 point each of: fire, ice, acid, electricity and poison. It's available in the middle of the game, early in chapter 5.
The problem with Halberds is this: you get access to three great ones right around the end of chapter 5, beginning of chapter 6. Before that there's just the Dragonslayer one (+3, immunities) and the Duskblade one (+2, +1 cold damage). IMHO Halberds are great weapons for Bards, Fighter-Mages or others who wish to remain in the 2nd line, and very good weapons for front-line figthters. The payoff isn't until late in the game (or early in ToB), though. -- Nifft |

Yeah Dragon's Breath is pretty nice, but it only hits for 1D10, +5 elemental, not 1D10+4, +5 elemental IIRC
