(I posted this in Wizards and Warriors forum, but realized that it probably will have a lot of interest, so I'm reposting it here. Apologies in advance for the crosspost! If you're having trouble with DirectX 8.0a from "Microsuck" disrupting your games, read on

I just found this last night, guys. You no longer have to reformat your drive to get DirectX 8.0 off your system! This site has a utility called DirectX Buster that will unload ANY version of DirectX, even 8.0, without going through a system reformat!

http://www.directxbuster.de/index_e.html

The most stable build of the product is DirectX Buster 1.33 build 103.

You'll first need to download a copy of DirectX 7 (or whatever version you wish to return to). You can do this here. When you've downloaded the package, then run DirectX Buster and remove DirectX 8 from your system. Reboot, then reinstall DirectX 7. You're ready to go!

Hope this helps solve a LOT of frustration. Here's one in the eye for Microsuck!

Cheers,

Well, Memnoch, it looks like I've got to do a reinstall on BG2, so it may have been a bad install to begin with. However, I'm glad to get DirectX 8.0 off. When I get home later today, I'm going to scrub off BG2 and reinstall, and then we'll see. I'll let you guys know over at the BG2 forum. Here's hoping!

Thanks for asking,

Does DirectX8 have a problem with BG2? I almost installed it the other day for Tribes2, which is at least as buggy if not more then anything Microsoft could aspire to put out.
