Hmmm... tried the contradictions to my strategy and landed myself 30k points below what I usually get. Pretty much following to the letter what was said. Highest I've ever gotten was from following my minimalist strategy buying only weapons and upping as I could. granted you don't want to buy each weapon one at a time in sequence, that's just wasteful.

Also I think there is a small degree of luck involved as well. that is where objects are placed in the level. how close and such like that.

It could also be some strange occurance of my own strategy working best for me. Kinda like an RTS it doesn't always pay to follow the strategy in the guidebook if it doesn't fit your play style.

Well, everything is a target. trees, people, bird, the odd box or vase. Anything in the foreground is a target.
Except the witch.

Hey, does anyone know for sure if the different backgrounds serve only an aesthetic purpose or do you actually get more gold in the rich palace setting? I seem to be getting more there but can't say for sure if it's really like this or if it's simply just luck...

My strategy:

After level 2 I usually have 4k. Buy the big mace thing.

Every level after I buy the blue potion, that's all. Works pretty well (faster swings are better IMO).

Got up to 60k odd but can't get higher

Anybody else have trouble reading the scrolls between levels? They show up blank for me...

Yep, the blank scroll issue was mentioned earlier.
I don't see anything either.
But as long as you keep smashing stuff it's all good.

Oh got a +50 smash bonus on my last run

Oh altered my strat, I do the first two with just the club, but after that I buy the mace and nothing else. Working out pretty well so far.

I do think a lot of it is luck with the placement of objects in the levels.

As for the rich stuff in the rich place, not sure on that. I'm finding the field peasants to have been holding out on the king though. Rather odd that they would have so much money.

I wondered if the scrolls were meant to be blank. I just ignore them really.
