Cavaliers are a paladin kit, and get a different stronghold.

Monks get the fighter stronghold though, so if you change back and have a save before the conversation, you might be able to get the keep.

Is there any point to having the strong hold besides the 500 gold a week?

You're a Paladin. What's the Paladin hotspot in Athkatla? Go for a visit.

the cavalier gets the paladin stronghold
i.e. additional quest from the Order of the Radiant Heart and of course
additional rewards for that quests.

And the rewards of those quests are VERY nice. Especially for a paladin.
