Egyptian myth...
someone called Anubis the dog-headed god...actually it's the head of an hyena or jackal!! So sorry Rik, but this one is for the Laughing Hyenas (well you're a member of them too anyway!)
I'm going to be concise now, don't have the time to write them all out as I have a lot of wonderful and sweet emails to reply

Isis: life, birth, fertility, renewal etc. etc.
Osiris: death and resurrection, knowledge, lord of the gods
Set or Seth: devil-figure, desert-god, brother and killer of Osiris (identified with Greek Typhon)
Thoth: scribe of the Gods, moon god, magic, literature, science, learning
Anubis: judged the dead (identified with Greek Hermes)
Bast or Bastet: cat-goddess (yay Choc!)
Horus: originally sky and sun god

Sumerian, Assyrian:
Ereshkigal: Queen o/t underworld, of death
Marduk: god of the gods
Absu and Tiamat: sweet and salt water, two monsters
Enki
Enlil
Nanna/Sin: Moon god
Nergal

All identified with fertility/beauty/nature/moon/sun and with Artemis/Aphrodite/Demeter:
Ishtar, Inanna, Astarte

Evil demons/gods from Sumerian/Assyrian myth:
Pazuzu, Azag-thoth, Lillith, Humwawa, Ereshkigal, Tiamat, Xastur, Cthulhu.

(those of you who read Lovecraft/ listen to Morbid Angel/ own the Necronomicon will be LTAO)

Maybe Wolfie can help with Norse myth, I'll just put down some names (sheesh I started so very optimistically, but grew more and more tired...)

Skadi Niord/Niordhr Freya Odin Loki Thrym Hel Heimdallr Fenrir Balder Wuotan/Wotan Tyr Freyr Frigg Thor Donar

Noted that D&D often seems to "borrow" names from real life pantheons...
Mielikki is actually a Finnish diety!

I think she is a nature/healing diety of some sort but I'm not sure...I'll look it up for you...

OK It's not in my boyfriends dictionary of Phrase and Fable but I know it's in my Encyclopaedia of Mythology. I will look it up for you tomorrow when I get home, ok?

This is what I found on the net:

A hunter`s prayer to Tapio

Tapio, King of the wilderness,
appease me
Master of the animals,
comply with my wishes
Take me to the hillock with your hare
give me my kill

Tapio was one of the major gods of the ancient Finns. Tapiola, the woods, was his kingdom. He was the god of hunters and hunting and master of the spirits of the woods. Hunting was an essential activity in those days and it practically kept people alive. So the role of Tapio was very prominent. Tapio could bring the game to you -or take it away. You were a guest in his woods and hunted HIS animals. The forest was the home of Tapio and as such a sacred place. His animals were also sacred, before and after the kill. To ensure the favour of Tapio offerings were made. For this purpose there were special places in the wood called Tapion pöyta, the Table of Tapio. This was sometimes the stump of a large tree but more typically a short and bushy spruce with all the branches pointing evenly downwards and with a flat, table-like top. On the "table" special offerings were laid which included some of the hunted prey. The cattle breeder could also place offerings to Tapio since his cattle grazed freely in Tapio's woods.
There were many members of Tapio's family. His wife was Mielikki to whom hunters turned when hunting lesser game. Animals also had their own guardian spirits. Loaus was the spirit of the elk and Lyydikki the spirit of the deer.

Tobbin, thanks for the info!
And I'm glad to see you here again. I never really said how sorry I am about your grandmother, partly because I went through the same thing last year and it still hurts very much.
But anyway, back on topic: for those of you who know Nightwish, you'll recognise this;

"Tapio, Bearking, Ruler of the Forest
Mielikki, Bluecloak, Healer of the ill and sad
Open the gate and let me follow the uncarven path"

(From the lyrics of Elvenpath, by the Finnish band Nightwish - GREAT song and GREAT band BTW)

Tell you what, I'll get out my enormous Larousse Encyclopaedia of Mythology and I'll look it all up for you! I've also have a *lot* of other books about myths, legends, fairytales etc. Yes the Encyclopaedia includes Chinese/Japanese/Oceanic/African/Asian mythology..... keep bumping this thread for me and I'll try and make the time to post an extensive OHF pantheon soon.

Loki - God of Death Erhemm, Loki, close to Loke norsegod should better suit as god of trickery and chaos. A true chaotic neutral fellow IMHO.

Osiris is an old egyptan God for death realm.

Ok, this evening I will dig deep into my ocult library and see if I can find some new cool names for you, anyone here reads Lovecraft? Chutuulu?
Hmm, great many dun names. Try to see symerian religion too. Enki and so.
