well id recommend Diablo II, well i think youve played it, BG1 is great too. the other stuff, leave it to him.

I would recommend (in no particular order):
Fallout, Fallout2, Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale & Heart of Winter (only if you like Icewind Dale)...notice where they are all from...
