Sir Kenyth: hang on a second while I grab my p-chem book.

More seriously, though, many people think like you do--that evolution is the tool through which creation was done.

Part of the problem seems to be the fact that so many "hard-core conservative Christians" (for lack of a better term) treat their Bible as a rigid and inflexible document that is literally true and infallible; if it isn't written in the Bible then how can it be a topic of discussion? I've always felt that the Bible, as well as any religious text, should be the living Word of God--flexible, applicable to any situation, and the source from which the Divine Will/Plan may be known. It is a map, not a prison cell.
On the other hand, there are too many people who, for whatever reason, simply can't stand anything that even hints at religion/faith. Anything a Christian (or other religion) says is to be discarded simply because of the faith of the person saying it. That is an extremely weak standard against which to measure someone's position.
Go read "Contact" by Sagan, if you haven't already done so. He addresses the "conflict" between science and religion.

Dinosaur remains--that's a favorite of those trying to "debunk" Creationism. Yes, they are old. Yes, dinosaurs did, according to the best research, dominate the Earth for millions of years. However, couldn't God have created the remains inside the Earth and then aged them appropriately? Of course He could! Why? To show we humans that we are still mortal, that this life is short and that we could be "called home" at any time.

What's really fun to point out to those who have no faith is that even their lack of faith could be in accordance with God's Will.

And all this coming from someone who practices no faith.
