I don't know the exact directions, but I may be able to help. If you've reached Carynara, she should be able to tell you how to travel deeper into the woods. The horn is found on (near?) a corpse beside a ring of stones.

This area has little frustration potential if you have the skill Wilderness Lore. Even if you haven't put any points in it, it is an untrained skill, so a high Wis character may have enough to help you through the area. You can check an area multiple times even if you don't learn anything on the first check.

Another way to make it through is to leave little clues for yourself (such as differing amounts of arrows) so you can figure out where you've already been and map the area.

If neither of these options work for you because of insufficient skill points or insufficient patience, you can find a walkthrough here.

Thanks. I'll give the first two a shot and if I fail I'll use the guide.

Very seriously, the Wilderness Lore skill will make this extremely frustrating part of the game ( I didn't have a ranger then... argh.) into an extremely easy walk through the woods. (literally.)

Wilderness lore: The north path leads to nowhere, as do the east and south paths.

That was an example, with the only option west. Huzzah for rangers!

Indeed. Wilderness Lore turns the Fell Woods from a maze into a Point-A-to-Point-B exercise.

Barbarians and druids also have Wilderness Lore as a class skill.

News to me. I've never played it unpatched, though. Mine works fine.
