One month ago I've bought the IWD trilogy. I'm wondering if the charcaters in the game are invented or have been extracted from the trilogy itself. I mean, for example, the wild mage Aracorn and Jerrod, as told in the game intro movie.

None of the characters from the novels appear in the game. Black Isle decided to set the game several years before any of the Icewind Dale trilogy takes place. They felt that by leaving these already well developed characters out, they would leave more room for the player to develop his own. By not including characters from Salvatore's books, they also gave themselves a lot more artistic freedom. Hope this answered your question. I think all of this info is on the official ID site's FAQ.
