I just found out that Prince Claus (the husband of our queen Beatrix) has just passed away. I don't know if any of you guys know of him, but he was indeed a great man, and I really believe that everyone in Holland will mourne for his loss.
Claus was having problems with his health for a long time, but he always seemed to get better. Until now. I really regret it, because he was one of the most popular people in the Dutch royalty. May he rest in peace.

Sorry to hear that. Even when you don't know someone personally, it can still be quite sad when they pass because of the influence their life has been.

I just read it on Pandemonium, Link... very sad news indeed.
Like you I thought he was one of the most interesting and lovable members of the Royal Family. At least there's an end to his suffering now (for the foreigners here: he suffered from Parkinson's disease, had cancer of the prostate, a kidney removed and suffered lung and heart problems) but for his family it will be very difficult
He'll be missed....

Hm, maybe it was a good thing that he passed if he was suffering so much.

You're right; he had to spend a lot of time on the Intensive Care lately.
May he rest in peace.

Even with his bad health, the news of his passing came as a bad surprise. Personally I still can't quite believe it even if it is all over the news. We'll certainly miss the man

Like I just posted on Pandemonium, he was a great man...

For the foreigners; Prince Claus (Claus von Amsberg) was the husband of our Queen, Beatrix.
I always found him to be a very funny man - he went against convention and tradition (by refusing to wear a tie for instance) and had a good sense of humour.
He'd been ill for years - Parkinson's disease most prominent among his ailments. He'd been in and out of the intensive care these last months, suffering respiratory and heart problems, and he had a kidney removed as well.
He reached age 76.

He was the only one with humor in the royal family. Rest in peace Claus.
