Good evening all from South Africa

I got copy of iwd and it is my fiirst rpg game i have played and so far love it , but now i have encountered a problem and require help please , the game jams up on me at chaper 5 going to taverns the section where afer freeing slaves from the salemanders and they need the key to go to the surface , after my fight i went up that staircase went to the surface but cannot go to the bottom right tavern .

another question is there a difference between D&D and AD&D

you can't get into that room until you buy the expansion "Heart of winter" but finish Icewind Dale first
D&D means Dungeon and Dragons befor 1996
AD&D means Advanced Dungoen And Dragons after 1996
More Or Less the game idea has remained the same except
the rules , weapons, monsters, magic, and games have
become more advanced and much more fun to play.

Crimson thank you for the welcome and as the others who responded tyo my post , Crimson the problem is not in Kaldahar but at Dorn`s Deep the area with the frost giants , i kill off the giants get the stone , i need to continue my quewst from here , i know where i have to go but everytime i walk into that cave the game jams up , i have tried getting myself a new copy of the game but unforunately here in SA things are not quite up to scratch and no supplier actually holds copies of the game anymore and various titles you telling are also not available , the newest game released here is pools of radiance which i looked at and don`t like cause of the way levels are designed AC etc , this was the eason for my second question is this the wasy AD7D rules are heading or is it because Pools of Radiance is different rules from IWD for example

Christopeuma you have a problem with game lock up.
after the game first came out the people that designed Icewind
found out about this problem and designed a patch for the game
that can be downloaded on the internet at
http://www.blackisle.com once you bring up this address look
for the Icewind Dale Icon and click on it.
Then look for the section called down loads and find the patch
for Icewind Dale.They will explain how to apply it into your game
and also you can buy the expansion games from them when you are
ready to expand your game world.
the patch should repair your game so you should not need to replace
the copy you have. it is 12:00 midnight here in Virginia and I need
to get some sleep. Let me know if this fixed your game. if it does not
maybe we can find another way

Sir you are truly an officer and gentleman , i downloaded the patch from blackisle and installed it and voila i have access to chapter 6 , my disk didn`t jam up and let me into chapter 6 , i had given up and was ready to start HOW but now that has been put on halt and will continue with chapter 6 YAY!!!!! , once again i thank you good sir , i hope we will continue with dialogue on other matters , Thank you!!!

Why thank you good sir , you have truly made me feel welcome to the forum and you and Crimson and others will defenitely bieng seeing more of me on the forum , i am still relatively new in the rpg world but if this is the way people are treated here then i feel the choice of joining this particular forum has been a wise one ....

another question now is this i have reached cap on xp and want my characters to continue enjoying strength , is there a patch to do this and allow me to continue up the ranks , i killed the dark-elf and collected 50000 xp but alas it was not recorded this has dapen my spirits slightly , yet i believe that somewhere outthere there is a patch , help me please my fllow forumites in obtaining this

Christopneuma,

I believe that you can install HoW and eliminate the XP cap problem.

Also, I think that Dalekeeper can be used to hack past this problem, but I'm not sure.
