i was just wondering if anybody would like to explain to me, what do the numbers and letters in damage mean, like 1d2 +4, i get the plus four bit, just the d separating the first number from the second, plus im not all that sure what the second number is, thanks in advance.

Well, it works like this:
the "d" means dice, so a weapon that has 1d4 "rolls" one four sided dice to determine the damage it causes, that is, does from 1 to 4 damage. For example, a bastard sword +2 would have 2d4 +2, no ? so it means that the damage it does is: 2d4, that is, from 2 to 8, and +2, so actually it can do from 4 to 10 damage.
