Nice feed. I enjoyed following the coverage on Thursday.

I found it interesting how the cops themselves blocked traffick for many blocks by walking in the street in order to stop the marchers from walking in the street. Seemed kinda pointless.

Ironworks Forum Re: Occupy Wallstreet Live web-cam on the front lines

On the one hand, I have been supportive of the Occupy protests because people in this country are too complacent and not enough people have been protesting things.

On the other hand, it is a shame they decided on this non-centralized and essentially leaderless movement because it has left them with a lack of focus.

The real problem, though, is that the protesters are trying to stand up against the wrong people. The corporations and the people who are wealthy (most of whom are wealthy because they inherited money and sought careers that would bring them increased wealth, not because they cheated other people) are not actually breaking any laws (most of the time) and are not the ones who caused the disparity in wealth. The Occupy protesters should be protesting against a bought-and-paid-for Congress, which contains members who are in the pocket of their corporate sponsors instead of their voting constituents. These politicians create the system by which the 1% continue to increase their wealth at a rate that dramatically outpaces the rate at which the other 99% are able to increase their wealth; many of these politicians are also in the revolving door of "politician to lobbyist then back to politician"--when they leave public office they get a job peddling influence back to the same Congress they just left. This corporatocracy is the true source of many of our current problems.

Sadly, though, as I noted earlier too many people in this country are too complacent and so no one will decide to do something about it and vote for politicians who are not in the two major parties, both of which are to blame for a host of ills.

I think the same can be said of the Tea Party. Not to say you support either, but they are a contrasting group. The Tea Party started out as a party of accountability -- they wanted the same accountability out of bailed-out banks and car makers that is expected of the average American. Now they only apply their rhetoric only to the middle class and poor, never the rich elite, which is sad, but is a different discussion.

Well, I think that by going against their benefactors, they are doing so.

I think the Occupy movements "get this." It's a tirade I'd like to go on more, but you cannot fix politics without decoupling it from dollar donations. It's an issue I've worked on since law school 10 years ago, and I have found the simplest fixes, but to get those things done politically.... well, heh.
