OK, I'll move this to the Gen Discussion Forum and answer it there. You'll get heaps more answers there too, a lot of Aussies on this board.

OK, I haven't spent much time in these other cities except Sydney but here are some points of interest (other Aussies will hopefully add to this thread too!):

Melbourne - the city will keep you occupied for days. Lots of museums, nightclubs and cafes. Make sure you visit Crown Casino.

Perth - Fremantle and Cottersloe Beach are must-sees. Also the Margaret River region makes some of the best wines in Australia.

Darwin - check out a crocodile farm! Kakadu National Park is just south of Darwin, very cool place where the rainforest meets the outback. Further south is Uluru, formerly known as Ayers Rock. Worth going, even if just for a few days.

Brisbane - if you're into the beach make sure you check out the Sunshine Coast and Noosa (north of Brissy) and Surfers Paradise to the south. The Whitsunday Islands have the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen, pristine waters and white silica sand. You can go sailing to your own private strip of beach, the waters around there are really good for sailing.

Hobart - Port Arthur, a historical site - go for the ghost tour! Strawn (sp?) is excellent for getting in touch with nature.

Adelaide - the suburb of Glenelg is nice. Also Kangaroo Island and Barossa Valley, another superb wine region.

Sydney - where do I start? There's so much to do. You have to check out the beaches, even though it's heading into winter in a month you can still have days where it's 85 degrees in the sunlight. Bondi, Tamarama and Bronte are the beaches closest to the city and have a great vibe. The harbourside areas like Circular Quay and Cockle Bay are great touristy areas with awesome views.

If nightclubbing is your thing there are some of the best clubs in the world down here. Check out the Establishment on Friday night and Middle Bar on Saturday. If you really want some deep trance go to Home. And restaurants, restaurants, restaurants. Far too many to mention, really good ones are Aria in Circular Quay, Level 41 in the city and Chicane in Darlinghurst.

For the druid in you, the Blue Mountains are an hour's drive west of Sydney, there are a lot of nature trails if you want to go bushwalking.

I could go on and on for pages but I'll pass you on to the guys who made it their business to tell tourists about Sydney - Citysearch! Find them here.

Have fun!!

I'll post here later if I remember anything else!

Just a little extra commendation for Noosa that memnoch has already mentioned, it is the best tourist resort I have been to in my travelling even if it may be a bit expensive. But if you like that kind of thing then Noosa is the place to be

If your going to melbourne, check out the Zoo or the botanical gardens, 1 hour south of Melbourne, is the brilliant city of Geelong, fantastic waterfront and a great nightlife, check out Irish Murphy's and Scottish Chiefs on a Saturday night, or if nighhtclubs are your scene check out Eureka.

Good luck friend
