Hey, I was just wondering about something; I was playing a few days ago and managed to get myself into the tavern in Valeia.

I proceeded to drink (heavily...) and then the guy (galliwag???) started talking about living dead and spectral things, namely banshees.

The next time i went through the crypt, a banshee spawned and I killed it. Would this be at all related to my chat with the barman???

Oh, and another thing:

The spirit of rumphy can cause petrification... on my character....in one of my solo games...i didn't have a terribly recent save.....and I had been away from town for a looooong time....<~expletives deleted~>

Cheers,

Moiraine Sedai

I don't think it was related to your conversation. Random creatures are random creatures. 'Course, can't say as I remember ever getting a banshee in the crypt before...

And regarding Rumphy.... rule #1: Save early, save often, save before, save after. I'll give him more respect from now on.

Actually banshees and spirits are quite common creatures in the crypt, at least in my experiences. Skeletons and rogues are of course the most common.

1. Yes. Banshees can be found in the Valeia Crypt regularly. The Banshee you have killed wasn't caused by the barkeep.
2. Yes. Rumphy can petrify. You are not alone who was surpirsed somehow and had to restart the game Since then, I am always saving the game before taking my 7500 XP.

I've noticed following:
there's one place near Ishad'Nha where you can face Banshee...
Just walk Shuregon Castle path and before Scantril's hut, there's
hill that looks just like graveyard...
At night you can see Banshee and skeletons!

I don't know other places near Ishad'Nha where you can meet skeletons and
banshee's! Well, if you don't count Shuregon Castle...

If any one has problems to realize that area, I add screencapture
from it... ( Sure I would have, and just can't find words to be more specific )

Quite right but I wouldn´t call those random spawns. They are probably there as a "mood generator". The same goes with Shurugeon castle. Lot´s of spawned banshees but mostly in the court yard. A grave yard isn´t authentic without its ghouls and goblins.

Oooh! ghouls and goblins...
I remember that game in Commodore 64 was Ghost & Goblins...
If you WillowIX refer to that.

And I remembered that ' Mood generator ' is some band's hitsong...
( unless I remember totally wrong! )

Do you WillowIX disperse subconscious sentences in your post?

Banshees are definitely common in the crypt. There is always a banshee in the "Path of the Wizard". It is in the room with the two coffins next to to flights of stairs leading up to a ledge. (It is the room just before the "Bathe Frizzol" in the Wizard's Path I think).
As to bartenders they always give away hints of things to experience, but the bartender only gives away the hints when they are somehow triggered. That means some of the hints first come when one has experienced the events in question. I was wandering if these hints can be related to one before they have been triggered by excessive ale-drinking (which yields eventual hints from the barkeeper).
Also I was wondering if there are hints from the barkeeper that I have never heard. That could be the case if there was some place in the game that I have never visited. It is perhaps a bit far fetched, but perhaps we could pool our "bartender-hints" and eventually post them in the best tips thread. That way we could all determine if we had all got the same hints and therefore determine if there was some small part of the game we had missed.
Just a notion.

Best bet with Rumphy is to fry him from a distance with Lightning or Zap (Stone Magic, which he's not very resistent to). He respawns every time you return to Kerah's statue, so you can run back and forth between the statue and Rumphy's tomb to get mondo XP...great character trainer! He does have a "petrification" percentage (something like 2% chance) so it rarely happens, but if you do try to take him on "one-on-one" make sure you save!

I've always encountered Banshees in the Crypt, but then I've always played on Hard/Frequent Spawn so I tend to get a LOT of encounters. (I'm an XP hog).
