Well I wouldn't have a Kensai/mage with staffs, I would put that on a fighter/mage. I think the bonuses a Kensai gets with weapons, you'd want to have that character attacking with 2 weapons full power to do max damage that you can.
Now a regular fighter, I think a Grandmaster with the staff would be great, and maybe Grandmaster in A crossbow for that reach-out-and touch someone ability without wasting spells in normal fighting. I had my fighter/mage Grandmaster with crossbow/staff, and She did real well. Had staff of the magi in melee combat, and giant-hair crossbow in distance combat. (+4 crossbow in special areas if needed)

If you have a kensai mage, Grandmaster in the Katana would rock. You can use Celestial Fury in one hand, and If you download the bonus Merchants, a great katana I believe is on one what lets you memorize extra spells, a Katana +2 or +3 I think.
Wear a ring of Acuity (plus a ring of wizardry if your main character), your spell katana, you will have a ton of spells to use in combat.

It's called Dak'kon's Zerth Blade which you can buy from Deidre at the Adventurer's Mart. It does allow extra spells to be memorised.

Kensai are master sword swingers so to role-player only use swords. If you want pure power than dual-wield crom faeyr and celistial fury for a super one-two punch.
