Every now and then I pop in.

Belle and I had divorced back in 2008, then I married Notabarbiegirl in 2009--we had originally dated back in high school. She had joined The Oasis before we lost Timber, then lost track of Leah, then that board collapsed--long story, then she and Harley had a falling out and so we don't talk with her any more--another long, and sad, story.

The kids are now grown--the son got married at 21 (far too young these days, but we couldn't tell him no given that he was an adult), Liebeschoen reconnected with her Luna so they are together and happy once more, and I am still working in IT after all these years.

All things considered, I don't have any complaints.

Every few years I'll think about this place and drop in. It's been more than 23 years since I joined, back when I was a precocious but painfully misguided teen. This place easily holds the most detailed record of that time in my life - probably the most detailed record of *any* time in my life - and it's difficult not to return to it now and again, to relive pieces of that with horror and fascination.

After my time on here I went to university, had some real misadventures, got a PhD, got an unexpected career, lost my mother to cancer long before her time, got married, and now I have my first child on the way.

It's hard to convey to people what the earlier epochs of the internet were like, but forums like here were the lifeblood of that time for many of us. So many people from all kinds of walks of life momentarily brought together, and before a time when everything was so... saturated. It saddens me to see this place so quiet, but I suppose that's the way of things.

So, if you'll forgive some sentimentality from a man who's got plenty to spare these days, I just want to say to those of you I knew that I still think of you from time to time, and wonder where life took you.
