Okay, I have been playing RPG's in some way shape or form for about 15 years, and I have been loving IWD. My latest go at playing was designed with this group of characters classes:
All Human Fighters to start. Had 2 specializing in Lng Swds, one in Great Swords and Bows (fill extra slots and you have a "make-shift" Ranger), then one in 1/4 Staff, one in Flail, one in Mace. When I got them to about 6th level or so, I took one and Dual-classed him to a Mage (specialist: Invoker), then took 2 others and dual classed them to Clerics. By the time they are 6th level, exp. is pouring in, so being "1st level" doesn't even matter, especially since I already had AWESOME Hit Points from being a fighter for 6 levels (can anyone say possible 84 H.P. as 1st level Mage??). I flew up in levels with all three, and when I hit 7th level with them, I have mages and clerics with multiple attacks/round, awesome Hit Points, and can cast spells. Sure, you can't have the mage wearing armor to cast spells (but you never can), but the Bracers you pick up and robes, etc, make up for it. The hit points keep going up at that point, THAC0 is low, and the experience cap doesn't even touch you. My Mage (6th level fighter), is at 10th level and about to hit 11th. I thought of going with a thief Dual/Class, but didn't. Basically, starting with Fighters then dual classing them when you get multiple attacks/round (to whatever variation you like), is a great way to have a strong (and subsequntly) well-balanced party. I love Paladins, have always played them, but haven't in IWD due to some restrictions, any thoughts from anyone? I will probably do a Paladin the next time around though, for old times sake. |

The most powerful sword in the game is only usable by paladins, plus having one in your party changes the story alittle when you goto the snake-men temple.
I like your dual class idea although and considering both times I finished IWD I didnt even scratch the xp cap it sounds like it might be fun. I think a theif is woth having in the party and you can make up for the limited usefulness by having a multiclass gnome thief/illusionist. |
