I just got alerted to a new virus with the activation date of 1 June. the name of the virus is sulfnbk.exe. What it does is activate and erases your hard drive on the 1st of June. Location is in the windows/command directory. You must delete it from the windows/command directory and the recycle bin. Please search using find command in windows.

This is a hoax. Go to www.mcafee.com to read about it.

Be very careful. This Virus has been identified as a hoax. Deleting these files may cause problems with windows:

"we have gotten several requests for info on this over the last 3 days. apparently it is spreading rapidly, some would say faster than a real virus.

if anyone has deleted the file they should replace it either with one from another machine or extract it from the cabs.

if you are interested, here is the symantec write up on this virus:

http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/ven...e.warning.html "

This was the response to the hoax from a fellow tech at my place of employment.
Sometimes a hoax is as dangerous as a real virus.

Mark

When in doubt as to whether a virus is a hoax or not, check with the Computer Incident Advisory Center ( http://www.ciac.org/ciac/ ). They're the "police force" of the Internet, checking on viruses, hoaxes, chain letters, and other Internet incidents of a nefarious nature. They generally have the latest "scuttlebutt" on hoaxes circulating the 'net.

Hi! Dragonrider here. I am sorry if I have passed along bogus information. I call the person that informed me (my brother) and soundly thrashed him words only and told him about your info. I have been taking care of my girlfriend who has terminal cancer and did not have the time to check it out properly. However that is no excuse because I may have caused harm unknowningly. I consider everyone on the board to be my extended family and I just thought that you should know about the possibility. Once again I am heartily sorry and hope that I am forgiven. Yours truly, Dragonrider.

Dragonrider!

Please don't worry about it, you thought you were doing us a great service. I only responded so quickly to help clear the hoax ASAP. It was not your fault...you just trusted the info you got. I thank you for just trying to help.

Your OK in my book (if that's really important).
For what you are doing for your girlfriend...You are the hero here!

Hang in there!

Dragonrider - no problem! We appreciate that you would want to warn your friends here about a possibly damaging virus! This also helps posters get the word out that it is a hoax - so did some good!

Blessing on you and your girlfriend!!!!

Dragonrider, same as what Skywalker said. Also, don't blame your brother too much; he undoubtedly meant well. I had to teach my mom about CIAC! She knows now to research before forwarding e-mails.

The wonder of the world we live in!

Anyway, you are a VERY valuable member here at this forum, and we're glad to have you helping us out, too! Don't feel badly...any one of us could have made the same error.
