Ok, seeing as Americans masicre the English Language, this is a simple little poll to see how many people on IW spell things the American way, and how many spell them the correct way.
Also, where possible please try to select the option which reflects what you learned, rather than what you commonly use.

According to the English I know and use, I'd spell it Battle-Axe.

To me, vice is a bad habit whereas vise is a clamping devise.

Moni, they are both spelt vice here

Why do we insist on using words with extraneous letters in them? My typing speed is 60wpm - I'm sure if I were using US spellings it would be 70wpm and I would be far more efficient at my job

What I think is more interesting is the fact that the word Billion has two completley differint meanings! that's right! In England, one billion would be 1,000,000,000,000 in the USA one billion is 1,000,000,000 and we call 1,000,000,000,000 a trillion... weird huh? My question is, if that's a "billion" in England then what word do they have to represent 1,000,000,000 or what the "yanks" call a billion? hmm? Are you telling me the british have another number entirely that goes in between Million and Billion, and if so, what is this numeral called?? 0.o

*sigh*
In the US, yes, they are both words. But in England, there is no such word as vise. A clamp-like device is called a VICE. It is NOT a trick question.

[/QUOTE]True...the American Heritage Dictionary even notes that "vice" is a variation of "vise" and that "vise" is also "vice". Go Figure!

In UK I believe 1,000,000,000 = one thousand million. But most people, especially those in business, refer to it as a billion.
