Pretend this is a footy game (or rugby, or basketball, etc), and we're the referees. We realise this is a debate forum, and people can and will get passionate and heated about certain opinions. But most importantly we want a FAIR game, where people can debate but can shake hands and call it bygones and go for a beer at the end of the game/argument with no hard feelings. We don't want spitefulness, we don't want pettiness. We don't want people starting fights, trying to get other people banned by flamebaiting, and getting personal with each other, or carrying on little petty niggling fights with each other, or getting offended at every little thing to try and get people they don't like banned. We will do our best to keep the forum flowing and tempers down but we expect people to help when it comes to this. DON'T LEAVE IT PURELY TO THE MODERATORS TO CONTROL YOUR BEHAVIOUR. Because if once we get an incident where someone throws a punch (ie flames) then we will not be negotiating, we will be reaching into our pockets and sending people off the field, and it will be tough luck at that point.

If someone's been found to causing trouble, and it's their first time, then they get a YELLOW CARD:



This is a week to two week's suspension. This will apply to people starting a conflict, retaliating or doing things to bring the spirit of this forum into disrepute.

For serious or repeated offences then we will be issuing out RED CARDS:



This would be equivalent to a permanent (or at least a VERY long term) ban, so make sure you don't get one of these. They'll also be held against you if you decide you want to sign up again and participate.

As in all sports, the referee's word is final. Sorry fellas, that's the way it's gotta be. The rules are there to protect everyone.

Have fun, and if you think something you're about to say might get you sent off, then don't say it. Or ask the referee. Play it safe.

And remember, the best sports games are the ones where you never even noticed the referee was there.

All I can say is, read the above carefully. Read the welcoming post from Ziroc, explaining what this forum is for and take it seriously. We have to, or it would quickly become a flamepit that nobody wants to participate in.

As Memnoch said, each of you is responsible for how you conduct yourselves here. The moderators will step in if needed, but it's far better not to get to that point!

If you feel inclined to purposely irritate someone, retaliate for implied or perceived offenses or just get so angry you start smoking at the seams....turn off the pc or change the screen and take a few deep breaths, think twice and then don't send the post- or don't write it. It's far more likely to be an inflammatory one at that point and won't serve any purpose but to get you a yellow/red card. Ask yourself if it's really worth that before you send it.

One last note: Z pointed out in his welcome that this forum is for fun or interesting things in the news too, so try not to consider it ONLY a serious/hotbed zone! [img]smile.gif[/img]
