I have a problem at the moment.
I am at de'Arnise keep and about to solve Nalia's Quest.
Two of my characters (kensai's) have just got enough exp. to reach level 9.
The idea was i would dual one of them to mage and one to thief at this level, but the problem is, if i dual now i have two very weak characters (untill the kensai is reactivated) and that is not a good time right now. Is it possible to keep collecting exp. and dual when i am finished with this quest?
It's just important i dual at level 9.

Question how far are you into the quest?
I hate Kensai...so dunno.
But those duals sound brilliant.

You sure can. As soon as you dual, all experience after the last level is dropped. So if one of your Kensai is level 9 and has 400,000 exp., as soon as you dual-class, all exp. after 250,000 (last level up) is dropped.

Personally, I would have the Kensai you planned to dual to a thief dual at level 12; that is, unless you don't have any thief.

Avatar: To your question...Have just made the dog stew.

Xod: I do not have a thief. I made a party with a ranger (will dual to cleric at 9. level), kensai (will dual to mage at 9. level), kensai (will dual to thief at 9. level), a berserker, an inquisitor + a NPC (at the moment Nalia).
Don't think i can wait to level 12, because i will exchange Nalia soon to solve some of the other quests. Else a good point.

Is it waste of exp. to wait to dual till i am finished with this quest if they are dropped?

I'd just dual them now...keep them back and let the rest of your party members kill everything. Then they'll get lots of experience and gain levels faster. Also scribe scrolls into your book...that'll give you lots of xp.

Fighters can dual at level 9, but its actually better in some cases to dual them at level 12, you'll get 3 more fighter THaco drops, plus an extra proficiency slot to raise points up.
I would dual up once you reached the level you want. That way the experience you gain will go to your new class quicker. You can still win battles with your weaker characters, use them for missile attacks or something. A simple quest or something that gives you 25000 quest points will bump your level 1 thief quickly up to level 6.
Don't wait! Once you can dual at the level you want, DO IT!

Personaly, Id wait until there werent any more special ablities or weapon proficiencies to gain as a Kensai.

Id wring as much as i could out of that class as I could before dualing to mage or theif. once theres nothing more to gain from the class THEN id switch. but thats just me.

Well if you waited for that Earthdog, then you would never switch from your Kensai because he will always gain 1 proficiency every 3 levels and more kai abilities.
You dual class your kensai depeneding on how far you think you can get him in the game. With the EXP cap, you can only get him to level 13 before having to switch over, that way you can get your 2nd class above level 13. At level 12 you gain a proficiency slot, so level 13 you just gain a few extra hp and a Thaco drop, so In my opinion level 12 is a great level to switch over.
If you have the experience cap off, you might get him to level 14 or 15 and still be able to get your 2nd character above that, but that is pushing the limits of even Baldur's gate experience with a party.
