Crypt Again - Problem!

I've started over with a better party. Again in the crypt, trying to get the Bauble Stick. The chest in Rethpian's room won't open! The game does not acknowledge that it is an openable object!

Unless this is not the right chest, please help! I obviously need the Bauble Stick to continue!

The bauble stick is in a chest in the eastern room (I think!), around the water area. It is NOT in the room with Rethpian.
