Some lame things...
1. Few protection from undead scrolls in a game where there are a lot of undead to fight.
2. Spells which descriptions made them apparently powerful (chromatic orb is one of them), when actually most enemies could do the saving throw.
3.The fact you spend half of the game fighting your way to rescue Imoen, just to find out she's way behind in levels (I think I've already mentioned this before, but here it goes).
4. Few options for your PC voice, and some of them were unbearable.
5. Most of +3 and higher weapons with special properties were of the slashing type (namely long swords and two-handed swords). There should be more enchanted blunt weapons.
6. Jon Irenicus is a mage, so why the game designers made him so obviously muscular?

This is a rule from the pen and paper game (it does suck, but you can blame Gary Gygax (the guy who invented the game) for that).

Answers (some in jest, some not):

1. Maybe they actually wanted you to fight some of the undead toe-to-toe (you know, make it actually a little challenging ). Of course, you could just get Anomen, get him leveled up, then have him turn undead while walking through Bohdi's lair. All you'll see are little explosions (actually, that's something I found lame; how come shadows blow up into little solid pieces when turned?).

2. All of the spell descriptions make them sound like they are the baddest spells in the game, when in reality, many of them suck (can you say Sleep and Shocking Grasp? ). That's why Sorcerers are cool; give them all of the spells that are cool that you will use repeatedly (like Breach, etc.), have a mage in the party to learn the rest (lots of backup and "just in case" spells) and your party will rock.

3. Definitely agree with you about Imoen. She was my favorite NPC in BG1, and I would have liked to have her throughout the game in BG2. You can at least remedy this somewhat by bringing lots of scrolls in scroll cases for her, then kicking everyone else out of the party (except for your romantic interest, or you'll lose them) before she learns her spells. With ToB attached, you can keep multiples of the same spells, have her learn them, erase them from her book, and relearn them (great way to rack up lots of xp ). However, there is one thing that bothered me even more than that. When I heard BG2 would have romances, I was hoping she would be one of the options (she was really the only option I was interested in). Then they just have to go and make her your sister, just to really spoil everything. I guess someone could whip up a romance option for her, but it would just be...icky.

4. Yep, hated the voice options, too. However, at least this is something that you can remedy by downloading from websites (there are quite a few out there that have voice packs). I also hated the pictures; why are my options only the pictures of the other NPCs? If I like Edwin's picture and choose it for my character, then add Edwin, now I start getting confused about who is who. I downloaded some pictures, too, so I would have more options.

5. Well, the best weapon in SoA (Crom Faeyr) happens to be a blunt weapon. In fact, one of the best weapons to upgrade in ToB (the Flail of Ages) is a blunt weapon, too. And how about the mace of disruption upgraded? You know, when you fight all of those undead creatures because you have no scrolls to keep them away? Oh, the Staff of Woodlands, the Staff of the Magi, etc. The class of weapons I thought was way too powerful was the two-handed swords. In the pen and paper campaign, two-handed swords are not common (especially magical ones; long swords are the most common). In SoA, you are insane not to have someone using a two-handed sword.

6. In fact, why is Jon so buff WHEN HE IS AN ELF. Every time I start an elf, I have a little scrawny guy (18/91 strength, and Mazzy looks more muscular than I do ). It looks like they took a picture of Arnold as Mr. Freeze in "Batman and Robin," changed it up a bit, then plopped him in the middle of the game. Jon looks like he's been taking steroids for about ten years. Maybe that's why the dryads can't get a rise out of him; maybe a certain part of his anatomy has shrunk to the point that he can't get it up anymore.

However, one of my big pet peeves is this:

How come, every time I have a random encounter (or even half of the encounters I have when I first enter a new area), the enemy appears SMACK IN THE MIDDLE OF MY PARTY. I have 2 rangers and a thief in the party (all of which are supposed to be more alert/able to detect enemies than other characters); how come they can just sneak up on my party that easily? Are my guys that dense that they can't see enemies coming, even in the middle of the street? I waste all kinds of time getting my mages out of harm's way, rather than using them to cast spells. This really annoys the hell out of me!

The worst thing about the game was there was no dog that just escaped from an explosion I was very annoyed. ahem.

Aside from that the char models mainly sucked and I wish there were better things they could do with specialist mages as in Invokers get some special spell only they can get or something along those lines.

If you add ToB, the wild mage has spells only they can use. Of course, one is a spell that creates a wild surge, the other two protect them from said wild surges.

The other guys are just out of luck (specialists get some extra special abilities at higher levels in the pen and paper game, but they didn't put them in this game).

Would be cool, though!

This site has some cool downloadables on it, especially voice and portrait packs.
