I feel like a noob posting here so much again. O

Could someone clarify something for me.....

If i have a wizard that, say, learns level 7 sun spells
but only a couple of levels of stone spells, does that
mean if the char changes class, it will not be able to
learn any more stone spells even if practising the 'craft'
within the mage guild?
(From the book i see that stone spells are only avail
to Valkyrie and Wizard - this could force me to go way
back on saves)

When you change your class you will only be able to learn spells at a level of half your skill in that realm. So if your wizard has level 4 in stone spells he will only be able to learn level 2 stone spells.

crap. thanks.
worse than i thought. (half-remembered it was pretty bad)

guess i need to go back to my level 4 save and crazy level them so they
know level 7 sun & stone.
(had been putting my practices into sorcery and buying
suncraft)

had hoped that, at least in the case of sun spells, i could
switch to samurai and learn up to level 7.

oh well

Ah yes, the learning of thy books to master. There is always hope whilst doodling in this game. You are now faced with two options, both of which are not to harsh. Remember that Wizard is only class in the first 2/3 of the game to have "Stone" how valuable is it? The only book that gives you "Lavawalk" and a couple others.
With that being thrown out there here we go.
1. Make your next asscension to "Warlock" that way you can still study your current spell books, and the new ones.
2. When starting, be it solo or full gang, the Wizard should always study nothing but stone to get the spells you really want.

I'd been having one of my wizards learn stone spells
as I knew i'd need lavawalk, and some monsters aren't
affected by fire/are less vulnerable to it so elemental
blast comes in handy...

Had switched my wizards to paladins for healing - wanted
to leave warlock for after serpent temple. (have game
on hard mode with frequent spawn, and there is plenty of
xp in the temple, even for a group of 6, especially if
collecting serpin coins for all members to complete the
rogue guild quest)

Felix is right. A warlock does also have stonecraft as a native realm.

In fact, (credits to Radek for clarifying this for me a while ago), ALL the six realms are native to the warlock. That means that even though only the fiendcraft and the mooncraft will be immediately available to the warlock upon promotion he or she will still be able to learn spirit-, vine-, sun-, and stonerealm magic to the character's full potential. - (Not just half the level).

That's really cool to know. Thanks guys.

Looks like I'm gonna have to restart anyway - major
hard-drive death. (Guess it's Rumphys' revenge)

Thanks again.

Forgot to say - does the class change have to be warlock
*immediately* or can one change to something else, like
ranger or paladin THen to warlock to be able to access
all spell classes?

Obviously your best bet would be to advance through roles that would enable you to learn spirit magic (monk and paladin) and vine magic (ranger) first, since a warlock is not automatically eligible for learning these spells on promotion

Yes, that's the way to an universal caster. Start as a mage (fire and stone), become a paladin (spirit) then a ranger (vine) and now become a warlock. You'll be able to gain any spell in the game because you will know all magic schools and all these magic schools will be "yours".

Who should do such things?
1. A solo character.
2. A future enchanter/blesser. This character isn't supposed to be a mage and to cast spells around himself all the time. He is supposed to get all "Artifact of ..." spells and train blessing and enchanting.
