I've heard about a feature in HoW dubbed "call to arms". What exactly is this? Do characters automatically whip out a sword and charge forth or something?

No, no, we wish. Actually, it's the monsters who do that.

Call to arms is a feature implemented to make fights harder. What happens, is that a creature that spots you sends out a "call" that draws all hostile NPCs in a certain radius. It was put in to prevent players from drawing one monster at a time out of a group and picking an entire horde off singly.

I like it, actually. Instead of having to go into every corner to clear out monsters, they come right after you... and into the Web.

Some monsters don't appear to use the call to arms. The undead in the Vale are an example of that.

Marty4,

I IWD you could pick off individual monsters in a group, as long as your party did not get within visual range of other monsters in the group. With HoW installed, the monsters act more intelligently (and realistically): If you pick on one monster in a squad, all the monsters in the immediate area come after you.

EDIT: Wow, Aerich, you usually beat me by hours while I am slowly composing. But I don't think we can cut our simultaneous posting any closer than this one.

Oh, that. They have that in IWD2. I forgot it wasn't in IWD! Meh, I can deal with that. In fact, I prefer that.

Thanks to both of you. Your timing is VERY uncanny

Yeah, ::uncanny timing:: that's what I thought. However, note that I got mine in first.

Frightening. Same time, same content, the only thing different is that crazy green font.
