I completed the quest from Scanthril to become an assassin. He says he may have a job for me later. I suspect that he's still talking about the quest I just finished, but I can't be sure. Am I done with everything to do with Scanthril, or should I keep coming back to him?

Did you get an item from him yet? If you didn't, then talk to him again.

Scanthril only has two things for you to do: find out about Grendel, and then to assassinate Raskalion. Once you've done both of those and received the Assassin's Dagger, he offers nothing more... except experience points

Here's something interesting that just happened. I took my rogue/assassin into the Ishad N'Ha thieves guild. Bratsol (?) noticed that I was still carrying the dagger I got from Scanthril, and tried to re-induct me into the Assassin's Guild. I said no, but now I'm curious. What would happen if a character became an assassin twice?

Hmmm... interesting.
The only way I can think of to become an assassin twice in the same game is to be playing unpatched, get the dagger, and hand it off to someone else. Then to go back in with it... I haven't played unpatched in a long time, so I'm not sure whether the checks in the game act based on whether you answered "No" to the promotion chance, or whether you answered at all. In any case, I believe you'd just start over as a level one assassin. No big deal, just like any other class change.

That is one way B.
The other is he's on a second run, or has gone back after reset adventure. What would happen? If your unpatched; you would have been able to keep the dagger by passing it off, but you would have reset to Lvl 1 assassin. Patched: lost the dagger and reset to Lvl 1.

If one has at any point declined the opportunity to attain one of the special roles one will have forfeit the chance of ever attaining it until the adventure has been reset.

1) Yes, I passed off the dagger when I originally became an assassin. 2) Yes, I'm playing unpatched.
When this bug occurred, I declined the offer to become an assassin again because I was worried about it messing up my character. However, I then went to a slightly earlier save, and this time accepted the offer. The journal listed my character as a level 10 (or so) assassin, AND a level 1 assassin. He needed 1500 hit points to level up. I didn't experiment any further, though. |

I would consider a second run or using Reset Adventure to be a different game, but I didn't explain that when I posted above.
Interesting... so I suppose you could be a zenmaster twice over as well, if you're playing unpatched.
