Upper Dorn's Deep--bug or feature?

The entry level of Dorn's Deep seems to restock itself with myconids and ettins every time I leave that main area (by entering lighted caves, or going outside). Is this SUPPOSED to happen? I usually try to "clear out" the entry levels to enable fast and easy retreats from deeper levels, but can't do it here. Help!

Yea I noticed that as well.. I was going back to Dorns because I forgot an item.. and was going to just walk through the area when I discovered my party is being attacked my mushrooms and the big guys.

It is one of the few areas in the game where monsters respawn - there will always by new monsters.
