Ok, I'm having a bit of an issue. Whenever I try to install older games (such as Dungeon Keeper 2 or Might and Magic VI) I get the following message when opening the setup file. (translated from Dutch) C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The systemfile is not suited for MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows-applications. Press Close to close the application.

At first, I thought this had something to do with Windows XP. But they work fine on my other XP machine. So I guess that isn't it. Any suggestions?

Well couldn't you just copy the file across from one of your other xp machines?

Some of the M&M's like 6,7,8 do have a problem. I can only run 7 (or 8)on my old PC, even though both PC's have the same operating systems. I think there's something you can do, or download in order for it to work. Do a search here, or on the web 'cos I know I raised the same issue some time ago.

If only it was that easy. It's on the other side of the country. Variol: I don't think this problem is restricted to M&M, many of my older games seem to have this problem.

I'm pretty sure it has to do with EMS support on newer boards, but don't quote me on that.

That thread appears to be board specific, but it can be adopted to your needs.

You might compare the autoexec.bat and config.sys files between the two machines. There may be something set up in one and not the other, and even though Windows really runs off the registry, that old stuff can still make something happen

You could always try a rain dance around your PC as well.
