is there a secret pasage in the sewers section of the crypt that is opened by pressing a button. In an earlier message regarding some chests on a shelf (and how to reach them) a gamer (ryanamur) indicated that there was a secet passage near this area.

Yes, there is a secret passage indeed and it is much easier to take this passage to get to the chest than to jump there.
Both button and passage are located not far from Scabban, in Scabban's area (the area behind the bridge with some zombies) Just search carefully, they are easy enough to find. If I'm not mistaken, the button can be found by going to the right from the bridge (while we can come to Scabban if going to the left), in the room with some bones and chains.
