Hi!

Some of you might remember me from the IWD2 a couple of months ago, where I still was (and are) a newbee. I bought IWD2 before IWD, and halfway through the game my comeputer crashed, and so I haven't played it since (and therefore haven't been active in the forum)...

Now I've finally bought IWD and would like to play it before returning to IWD"2, so what i'd like is some advice from you more experienced players before i start...

1: Which patches, bugfixers etc should I get before I start?

2: I've started planing on my party (all female), and would welcome some advice, tips and what not on if and how it'll work:

1: Bard, Human. (my main talker, mainly uses crossbow)

2: Fighter/Cleric, ˝ elf. (mainly uses a mace, only "good" cleric spells)

3: Ranger, Human. (uses bow and large swords)

4: Illusionist/Thief, Gnome. (spear, bow or quaterstaff)

5: Fighter, Dwarf. (axe and greatword. my tank!)

6: Do i need one? whats missing?

Thanks in advance / ~:Kitiara:~

Do you have HoW (Heart of Winter) expansion? If so the only patch you need is the TotLM (Trials of the Luremaster) patch, it is basically a free expansion for HoW that fixes everything.

A decent party and you don't need a 6th member. If you were to take a sixth member try a druid or Paladin with long swords.

Mind you Druids, and Bards are only rally good with HoW expansion and if you don't have HoW I don't recommend them.

Why greatswords? There is no main paladin in the party, so have the paladin use longswords for the obvious paladin bonus (cough). The rest of the party looks solid!

If HoW is installed, then I would recomend a bard. They can be very helpful with thier musical instruments...

Edit: A dwarven chick? creepy...

I don't find the idea creepy, but it seems that in the game darven females look exactly like the males, (with beard and all)! Not so much creepy as humerous!
It seems as if he female gnome also experience this phenomen, is it a bug?

~

actually, I don't have the HoW, ( but i know what it stands for ). So which patches do I need?

does this make my bard useless? cause I've been thinking of replacing her with a paladin, in which case she would become the main talker instead.

They just didn't change the appearances of the female counterparts. Its not a glitch. Its written in the game

and after awhile, a bard becomes very useful, but so does a palidan, so its your choice entirely

Hey Kitiara,

I remember you from the IWD2 board, and welcome to the IWD/HoW board. Here's some answers:

1) You want two expansions that come complete with patches. The Heart of Winter, which you must buy, and Trials of the Luremaster (TotL), which you must download (for free). Try here.

Install IWD first, then HoW, then TotL. You'll be all patched up and ready to go.

2) Your party looks fine and well-balanced. You may wish to go for an elven ranger instead of a human, for better bowmanship. I would add in a druid for your sixth character - you are a little weak on healing power, and druids also have significant access to offensive spells. There's no 'skills' in IWD, unlike IWD2, and dialogue is more restrictive, with differences based on class, race, and occasionally gender, instead of a learnable skill. A bard is a good talker, but don't leave her out front all the time.

Multiclassing and dualclassing in IWD is very different from multiclassing in IWD2 - we can get into the specifics of it later, once you are more familiar with IWD.

Question Mark

I've heard that dwarven males find beards on dwarven females to be quite intoxicating, if you know what I mean.

Like Aerich says, go for an elf ranger for bonuses in bows and LS.

For number 6 slot, go for a DRUID.

thank you for all the good advice so far!

*Since I don't have the HoW expanson and is VERY short on cash at the moment, I'll have to manage without it... I'll probably be able to buy i later, but that'll take a while and I'm itchin' to start the game! I'll just have to play another game with the expansion when I'm done with this one!
So is there any patch, mod etc that I need/is very useful without HoW?

*And to sum up your advice on my party so far: '

1: Bard, Human. (my main talker, mainly uses crossbow)

2: Fighter/Cleric, ˝ elf. (mainly uses a mace, only "good" cleric spells)

3: Ranger, ELF (uses bow and large swords)

4: Illusionist/Thief, Gnome. (spear, bow or quaterstaff)

5: Fighter, Dwarf. (axe and greatword. my tank!) should I have a paladin here instead?

6: Paladin (if not as number 5) or preferably druid, (race and weapon?)

* is there anywhere I can download the manual, cause I din't get one with my game and so I'm not 100% sure of which skills fit what character...?
