Can anyone tell me how i can slow down DOS games on my PC's?
I have a Celeron 500MHz and a Celeron 1.7 GigaHert both running XP and i really want to play the good old games like One Must Fall, Dark Legions and Syndicate Wars, but they run so fast i die in a few seconds flat, i have tried programs like Abandon loader but that doesnt seem to work, i have also heard of the program MoSlo. Has anyone used this program? and does anyone know of any other way? I remember that back in Win98 you could edit files such as config.sys or somthing like that but i dont know if it has changed with XP. Thanks. |

I once tried Slomo on my older P2 (Win95) but it didn't slow down games like Ultima 4 enough to play them with real fun. So I decided to search an old PC
(286 or 386) only for DOS games. IMO this is the only way for you because your PC is much to fast. Maybe there are newer programms that can slow down P3 or P4 significantly but I searched them and couldn't found one. |

If speed is the only issue programs like MoSlo will do the trick, if not you can open a lot of CPU-sucking programs (this worked quite well in Win95 and Win98). Just open your biggest proggy several times and run a scandisk surface test beside .
Yet many games will not run on XP at all. I personally suggest to keep an "old games PC" (mine is a P200) with plain MS-DOS 6.22 for those and make a bootdisk for the really old ones which need 600KB conventional mem.

Moslo works quite well if the game itself will run.
You could edit your config.nt and autoexec.nt to achieve anything you could do with config.sys and autoexec.bat, but theres no way I know of to slow your computer down like that (short of calling moslo from the autoexec, which will slow down anything using the MSDOS subsystem, which includes more so-called windows stuff than you might think.

Please tell me what's the trick with Slomo ?
F.e. on my 386 those fighter icon in Ultima 4 waves his sword 'normaly' (you can see it) . With Slomo on a P2 or higher it's only a flickering and for me a combat with this effects is not fun. |

Yeah I can only add to the voices saying get an old comp. Or partition your HD and install an old OS. I have Win2K and Win98 and use 98 for older games. For really old games I have my old P100 running Win95.

A while ago I installed Kings Quest 1. I started a new game and made my character go left ...... within a split-second it was game-over and I couldn't figure out why. This happened for about 6 times in a row before I realised I immediately ran into the croc's big, sharp row of teeth
