Preach it, brother. Amen.

Although a small amount of warning is useful, I find, when you're running your first trip through a game . . . if nothing else, it's good to have a list of those quests/areas from which you cannot retreat: The only way back out to the rest of the game is to beat the quest or area. Unfortunately, Balduran's Isle is in fact one of those areas, and it's not for the timid, either.

Specific advice: I don't have any, both because I hate spoilers and because I haven't been to that part of the game in years--I don't find it fun, so I almost always just skip it.

General advice: If you have room to run around, try drawing the bad guys off one at a time, or use a Hasted and/or Invisible character to separate them. If you absolutely must fight groups of them at a time, that's what area-of-effect spells are for. If you're having trouble, use any buffing spells or potions you have available. Some creatures can only be harmed by weapons of a certain enchantment level (or higher)--you will absolutely NEED some of these weapons, in the hands of people who know how to use them. For more general advice, check my signature.

Six of Spades and Kyrvias - Thank you both for taking an interest - it is nice to know there is help out there.
I found the guide on Six of Spade's site very good - I had got part of the way there re using tanks, but it has made me realise that part of the problem is that the feeble Xan (who is at the rear of the party formation) lands right in front of an enemy when we appear on the next level. This means that I can try changing his basic position so that he appears in a more protected position in future.
Not sure how the Guard & Protect option fits into things, either.
Perhaps I should try some of the 'easier' tasks from Ulgoths Beard first, to try and increase my general toughness levels.
Thanks again.

Er, no, not Durlag's Tower, at least not yet! (been there, Battle Horrors too hard at present)
Thought I might have another go at Ice Island, armed with the helpful advice I have had from you folks.

Hi Six of Spades,
After looking at your excellent site I thought I would use the CLUA Console, but instead of the " I get @ when I type on my UK Region keyboard!
Sorry if this is a VeryFAQ

Hmmm... @ is shift+2 normally, no clue why one would get @ instead of ".

Maybe just push ever key on your keyboard untill you find the one that puts " where you need it?

That's the best I can suggest. Perhaps someone will come along who knows more.

Howdy Goronvir,

usually these keyboards put the " key down near the ENTER key - should be SHIFT ' ( that is a key marked with a " above a ' ).

Thanks guys,
My " is normally Shift + 2, but in the Console I get @ instead!
I dont have a key with " and ' on. I did press every double key using shift, but no " appeared. Maybe I should put my glasses on and try again ....
