Actually, the Guard and reserve have served in every conflict since WW-2. That was one of the reasons our causilties were so high in Korea. We had cut the peace time professional army way back and the only forces available were the Guard and reserve (Army and Marine). That is until the draft caught up. Not near as many fought in Vietnam, but some did go. I seem to recall a big contigent from PA going, but my memory on that is sketchy at best. It could have been any other state.

More go now because most of the support and service and support units are in the Guard and Reserve.

For those of you that don't know the difference, the National Guard in under control of the Governor of each state, unless the Federal Government needs them in an emergency. That's why they get called out for natural disasters so much. The Reserve is under the direct control of the Federal Government and is only activated during a national emergency. The Guard has a much larger number of men compared to the Reserve.
