also xp is dif than 98 and i grew up on a win 95 machine and i havent really gotten to know my new comp yet so i need some guidance to where these things are

Try some of these things first, before we start conjecturing about "what-ifs". If you have a new machine, its unlikely that its a device problem. [img]smile.gif[/img]

Bad cd's DO happen and if that IS the case, the cd can be exchanged for a replacement. You can contact customer support and they will tell you what to do. [img]smile.gif[/img]

Just stay calm, and I'll try to walk you through any steps you are not sure about - with the exception of the XP compatibility routine, as I have no expertise there.

First, before you do anything. Back up copies of saved games, custom portraits and custom sound files if you have any.

Second, download NEW copies of the appropriate patches. Refer to the thread that cyril posted for details about exactly which patches you do need.

l-lellslayer, .wed files are the files that govern .tis files, the files that actually show the areas you are entering. That error would lead me to think that perhaps you have either a corrupted installation or a corrupted patch that has "broken the link" to the ar8001.wed file (the .wed file for the area you are trying to enter).
I can export and send you ar7000.wed and ar8001.wed files if you like, but I'd probably have to send a couple of .tis files, too (just to make sure). Or, follow that earlier suggestion about trying the saved game on another machine. [img]graemlins/petard.gif[/img]

Slayer, do you have an American or a UK edition of the game? The exact same error was reported some time ago in the Baldur's Gate Haven forums and seems to have been the result of a a defect in CD 2 of the UK edition of the game. A patch was apparently released to take care of the issue.

There is special patch, for that problem, as Cyril points out. You can also download it here:

The foreign language versions all have an identifying code letter after the version number, but I am not sure how the UK versions are identified. Try checking the version number - if there is any letter code after the v1.x.x version number you may have the UK version.
