That cloak of reflection or whatever its called - the one that sends back spells the way they came - is like an item left in the game from the debugging phase by accident. Whenever I use it I feel utterly as if I am cheating. Couldn't they at least have made it a time limit item like those gauntlets of blinding strike? That would be good - like 20 seconds to kill as many beholders as you can, then get turned to stone if you dont run like f#ck like any normal lvl 13 fighter. That beholder lair should take several hours real time to wade through, but I just walked it in a few minutes. So maybe I should sell it but most merchants only offer 2-3 thousand! Whats going on here, how much would I have to fork out for infinite Spell Turning Scrolls?
So far this is the worst thing in a wonderful game. Any thoughts ? |

Personally I have no morall problems with cheating. But if you think about it- it only protects one person- not whole party so not really the end of all problems. Also - does not reflect everything. If you really don't like it- you can take it off though.

- Sure I can take it off, but this is the whole point! How imbalanced does that leave the game when I feel obliged to confine one of the "best" items in the a game to that bag of holding for all eternity.

This topic was covered quite some time ago. It is definitely an unbalancing game item, especially if you are one of those famous kensai-mage solo specialists. I don't really know why they left it in there the way it is. Agree that maybe it should've had a limited number of charges per day, that would've balanced it out. Imagine how much more difficult the beholder lair in the underdark would've been if that item wasn't there.

***********SPOILER***********
It does protect the WHOLE PARTY in the beholder lair: (you might think you need six superpowerful characters to invade the beholder's capital - but no...) 1) Gather your party and enter the realm. 2) Five of you just cower by the door (completely safe) 3) One party member put on the cloak and walk through the entire complex killing everything for >100 000 XP without swinging a sword 4)This character then returns unscathed to reunite with the group and share out the wealth. |

SPOILER>>>>>
. . . . . . . Wrong! there are mind flayers in that beholder lair as well as a bunch of drow. And the cloak won't reflect their psionics. You find the cloak in the Sahuagin City. |

It took me awhile to realize exactley what it did, but that thing makes Beholders seem like flies! The person I had wearing it was NOT getting phased by Psionic blasts either. She a freaking killing machine now! It does seem a bit unbalanced. But I guess I paid for it by getting trapped in the damn Drow city with no way out. Now I have to do the whole Underdark again...

Um, okay *wipes egg off face*
So they do reflect psionics too? What about Power Word Stun, Kill etc. Probably make you invulnerable to EVERY spell targeted at you. |

My character with the cloak got toasted by psionics more than once. I guess I'm either unlucky or other people have been very lucky. It took me a good while to get through the mind flayer portion of the underdark the first time even with the cloak.
I don't think anyone is going to argue that the cloak is very if not too powerful, but there's no reason to let it take away from the game. Use it sparingly or not at all if you think it unbalances things. Have fun. It's just a game and a very cool one at that. |
