All right, here we go:

Corund took this in good part. “If all drow were like you, milady, you would have naught to complain of. At any rate the princess, here, thinks that you might want to hear my tale. Is that true?” At her nod, he went on. “Well, we were on our way to see you and your good lord, my lady. A pack of drow attacked us, and my one thought was for my princess to win through. So, I told her to fly and me and the rest of the escort took ‘em on. I was fightin’, and suddenly everything went black. I guess that they hit me over the head with something’, ‘cause it was pretty sore before you put your good word on it. Any ways, I woke up trussed like a bird meant for the spit. They was talkin’ in Drow, which I can’t understand, then one of them, a woman, came up to me to say, in Common, ‘You, big elf, you will be my sacrifice to Lloth if your bitch princess gets away. But if I catch her, I will just kill you, for you are too big to carry.’ Well, that cast me down, a lot, but I thought, at least the Princess got away, and I did my duty. I got beaten and such by some of the men, when they passed me, and I heard two of them saying to me, ‘sacrifice.’ Then, there was a big ado, and I heard horses and the noises of a scuffle as I lay there, wishin’ that I had my staff in hand and could go help whoever it was that was takin’ it out of the drow. I heard some wailing, and all of the drow ran past me, payin’ me no mind. Then my sweet lass here comes up and frees me. That’s all I know.”
Attalus broke in. “It seems that you did your duty and more, Corund. I am Attalus. Take the princess and go on to Baldur’s Gate when she is through, here.” He slipped the elf a coin. “Here, drink my health tonight, and my good wife’s. “ As the satisfied bodyguard went off, he turned to Viconia. “Sweet, that was quite a war party, with a priestess at the head. Is there some festival in the Underdark that they would risk a force like that just to get a sacrifice?”
“I know of none such, husband,” she responded grimly, “but if this dead one wanted a favor of Lloth, she would have wanted a sacrifice highly pleasing to her. I wonder…” She stooped and picked the snake head whip still clenched in the stiffening hand. The snakes were hanging limply, now, for they were enlivened by the magic of their late mistress. “Sometimes documents are stored in the handle…ah.” She had touched a stud that released a circular lid in the handle of the whip. She tried peering into the cavity, but it was too dark, and she dared not blindly reach in, for there was the chance of a poisoned needle or such. Better to proceed with caution. Besides, Imoen was in town, and if there were a trap, she would find it.

Back safe in Baldur’s Gate, with stout stone walls between them and their foes, Attalus insisted on dropping the princess and her guard at their tavern, saying that they needed to rest after their ordeal. When he got back to their house, a slightly built figure rose to greet them in their front hall. Attalus went over to embrace her, for this was Imoen. Her trademark red hair was touched with gray here and there, but there was no mistaking the bright note in her voice or the affection with which she greeted him, then turned and kissed Viconia on the cheek. “Hi,” she greeted them, “I got here late and found that my welcome had evaporated.” Indicating the butler, she continued, “ Karoli over there said that you had gone out after some alarm, but he didn’t know much, so I decided to stay here until you got back and I could have my news piping hot.” Seeing Veldren come in last, for he had been seeing to the horses, she had a kiss and a hug for him, too. Veldren didn’t mind. He loved his Auntie Im, who always had spoiled him.
“Imoen, my dear,” Viconia cried in dismay, “you must be starving. Karoli, is there any dinner left, for I find myself famished.”

LOL, no sooner said than done.

Karolyi bowed and answered, “Yes, Lady Viconia, it will only take a few minutes to heat up. Will you eat in the dining room, or perhaps be served in his lordship’s study on trays?”
Indicating that the man should do the latter, they trooped into Attalus’ study, a room that Veldren loved dearly. The walls were hung with curiosities that his father had picked up over the years. He knew their histories by heart. There, over the fireplace hung the hammer that had belonged to Bassileus, the mad cleric, crossed with the sword of the bounty hunter Greywolf. A suit of Antheg armor stood in the corner, holding a gaudy crossbow.
And, on a hatrack in the other corner, a collection of helmets won or found over the years. There were pictures on the walls, and books on the shelves, but the weapons were always the things that had always fascinated him. Perhaps one day, some of his trophies would hang in here, he thought wistfully, wishing that he had stopped to loot the scimitar of the drow fighter that he had killed. But his mother was talking, and his interest was piqued by the fact that she was holding the snake-headed whip that the priestess had held.
“So,” Viconia was saying, “Imoen, the handle has a hidden compartment, as I have often seen. But, I have often seen poisoned needles placed in the cavity, to deal with snoopers. Would you be so kind as to look at it for me?”
“Sure, sister-in-law,” Imoen replied with an impish grin, “sit it down right there, and I’ll tell you all I know. Which isn’t much.” Viconia made a face at her and sat the thing down. Imoen then proceeded to look at it from every conceivable angle, then made a little cry. She took a little knife from her belt pouch and worked in the cavity for a minute, then a little “snick” was heard, and she triumphantly tipped the handle up. A wicked-looking barbed needle fell out, with a brown, resinous substance hardened on the tip. She then turned back to her drow friend. “Lucky you were cautious, Vickey,” she stated grimly. “This looks like some of that spider venom that has no antidote. If you had just stuck your and in there, we might have lost you."
