That goes back to the late 80's, IMO, and was quite a fad among punks to toss their Doc Martins over power lines like that to see if they could make them hang there. If it became a drug reference later, that is something I never knew about. I knew several skate punks in Dallas who would do this on a regular basis; that was back in my salad days, of course. Never understood it myself, except that it was considered a feat to be able to make the shoes hang on the first throw.

I live in an area of my city called 'Meadowvale', and the nearby highschool is a public one, which seems to be pretty well infested with drug dealers and I've never seen any shoes hanging on a power line... too bad at that, would make for a cool photo =]

Hmm... I guess this means the local primary (elementary for you US folks) school is a drug place then. There's a pair hanging right outside them - been there for donkey's years.

That's interesting with the lyrics, Vask!! Maybe the theory has legs after all. Not sure what the mobile phone argument is though - how would that help people who aren't already in the know? Or do even drug dealers use telemarketing?

It doesn't. Darwin takes care of dealers who risk selling to people they can't vouch for. In one way or another.

From what I understand from where i live Dealers wouldn't wanna mark their house the usally don't let just anyone swing buy and pick stuff up so I think its not true wouldn't want to make myself known if i was slangin

Snopes indicates that there doesn't seem to be much support for them indicating drug dealers or anything else, although there was a military tradition for tossing your boots.

Damn. And here I was thinking I could get the police to patrol my area more often by investing in a cheap pair of sneakers...

They do here, at least when it comes to softdrugs. In the town i used to live in you could see an old greyhound bus driving around, with a huge marihuanaleaf on the side, and their phonenumber underneath the leaf. So basically it's kinda like take out chinese food, only this is weed, you make the call, they deliver at your door.

Only in Holland.
